Yup, the staff has really hit the gas pedal hard to start their 2022 recruiting cycle. Makes sense since they already have two solid commits for 2021 but much of what they need can be found in 2022. Unfortunately 2021 just isn't a great PG class and 2020 was a bit of a down recruiting year, but 2022 should be a kind one to the Terps. The real question is: If next season is a rough one for Maryland, who will be coaching in 2021 and 2022?

Paul Lewis, PG, Bishop O'Connell Commits

Very early. A 4 star junior, it will be interesting to see if he rises as he plays his last 2 HS seasons.

That is not good. PG was the big need.

Are they doing anything for the '22 class. Feels like they should have a commitment or two already

4-star SF Cam Whitmore was their top target (#1 player in MD), but he just excluded Maryland from his Top 3. So that’s not ideal.
I saw that last night. The Maryland area seems to be a tougher sell for Turgeon. That is not good.

That new guy they brought in was supposed to be good locally.

They should've pulled the trigger this year.
Turgeon is a dead man walking. Any savvy families going through the recruiting process know that, and that is going to hurt in the near term.

I guess Turgeon plans to build his teams through the portal from now on.

TBD
To be fair, it worked pretty well this year.

We’ll see. Quantity doesn’t necessarily mean quality. Either way, while I think transfers can help and the portal needs to be utilized, I don’t think you build your team strictly that way, even though it looks like that’s where they are leaning. It’s like a pro team going strictly the free agency route and ignoring the draft.

My son and I discussed the same thing. I am not sure it is sustainable, or good for the program or the fan base.
I guess it is a different version of one and done.
Frankly, I am not sure what to think about it.
