For those that saw him in the minors, did he have the changeup at a similar level as last season before 2019 or did it take a major step forward last season and now he can't find it again?

Thats a good question. What has to be considered is that he just found something last year and he's not quite sure what it was or how to get it back. Happens to hitters sometimes in career years. Its not necessarily luck or a hot streak that is a reason a guy has a career year. There was nothing flukey about his year last year. The change was nasty and legit. However, he may have lost the feel and the mechanics over the offseason that made it as effective as it was in '19.

I was struck by that interview Yelich did awhile back where he talked about working with Bonds. This was a kid who made it to the bigs and was a good hitter but he admitted that early in his career he really didn't understand what was happening when he got into a ball that jumped off the bat with backspin and sailed out of the park. He worked with Bonds and he found it consistently and thats what turned him into the monster he's become the last few years. The point being that even big leaguers sometimes succeed without knowing exactly how they are doing it.
