To show how impressive he was before Friday, opposing hitters were:

6 for 39 in April

6 for 41 in May

4 for 46 in June

Now 6 for 7 in July

They weren't exactly picking up any XBH either

Keep running him out there,  Everyone who has ever pitched the 9th inning has had bad games.  I think he was trying to throw too hard yesterday.

ESPN+ did a “deal for every team” at the deadline article, for the O’s, it was dealing Lopez:

The Orioles just completed their first winning month since August 2017, so while they're stuck in last place in the tough AL East, there is reason for optimism about the club's future for the first time in half a decade. Therefore, they shouldn't necessarily be looking to trade away every veteran with a pulse as in the past few seasons (not that they've had many of those). Trey Mancini, for example, has trade value and has a mutual option for $10 million in 2023, but he's a popular player and still a key member of the lineup. They might want to keep him for next season.

Lopez could also be viewed as part of the future, especially since he's under team control through 2024. But if there's one general rule that guides front offices at this time of year, it's that non-playoff teams should always try to cash in on career seasons from veteran relievers. Lopez has certainly been a revelation after spending most of his career as a starter with an ERA on the wrong side of 6.00. Those additional years of team control also mean the Orioles could actually get a nice prospect or two in return -- although Lopez's although Lopez's may have just dropped a bit after serving up home runs in his past three outings, his first three of the season.

Very deserving. The amount of multi-inning saves in half a season is wild. Congrats!

Hes essentially pitched as many innimgs for Min as he did for us in '22. It hasnt been good. ERA+ is 95 as a RP. 4.34 ERA. 5.19 FIP. K rate down considerably from the start of last year.

They knew he wasnt anything special. If you want to hold some stupid grudge about giving up on the season when there was such a little chance then by all means. But they knew exactly who Jorge Lopez was and moved him when his value was never gonna be higher.

I agree with your overall sentiment here, but I don't think they moved him knowing anything other than they were selling high.

He also wouldn’t be bothering to make this post if he were dominant instead. No one is going to change how they feel about how that all went down.

10 days ago his ERA was 1.71, so really rough stretch recently.

Will always be an all-time bad trade for me.  Hope Povich and Cano and anyone else can make the results terrific, but it was a terrible sequence of decision-making, IMO, and I won't be convinced otherwise.  Don't need to rehash why.

Again the number of innings are the same as it was in BMore. Just under. Thats why its brought up now. Its clear he is what he always was minus that great start to '22. Brilliant decision.

I mean if we believe the front office can reliably predict when the bottom is gonna fall out on a reliever why didn't they flip Cionel Perez at some point this offseason or during the 2022 deadline?

And why did they acquire Givens?

It wasn't about predicting anything. It was simply selling high on a particular relief pitcher.

You think they thought any of them were dominant. You think they think Cano is dominant. Of course not. Felix is a different beast. The RPs that are truly elite are a different beast. There is nothing saying they wouldnt have moved Perez last year at the deadline had they got an offer they loved. We dont know. In particular with Lopez its clear they knew he was outpitching who he was and they great an offer they loved.

I’ll never forget him choosing to sell in a playoff chase. Do you.
