Pitchers have been getting hurt for as long as there has been baseball. The difference is now the doctors can fix most things. I do think that pitchers put more strain on their arms, now. There was a slow motion shot of Waloker Buehler delivery in his series game. The tork he was putting on his delivery, and his elbow was incredible. Anyway, I am sure they will get Baumler back to strength, whether he makes it our not will be on his natural talent.
Yeah I mean there was a time when I was still going out and seeing guys and evaluating more and I could just SEE the ones that were going to have TJ in the near future. Me personally, I could feel the strain when I tried to throw a breaking ball too hard. Throwing sliders 87+, curveballs that are hitting 88-89, the harder you throw, the more tension it puts on those ligaments to attempt to get spin too.
At least you knew with the elbow your chances of coming back ok were pretty good. It's about 20 years later and my labrum and shoulder STILL hurts. And that's just day to day living, that's not attempting to still play after...ok well there was that ONE season of softball, but I learned my lesson pretty fast.
