The Orioles take prep 3B Coby Mayo at 103. He ranked No. 79 on the BA 500 and is committed to Florida. Full report: https://baseballamer...yword=Coby Mayo

Oh wow. Coby Mayo surprised me. Big time power, very live arm. Doubt he sticks at 3B, maybe can make LF work. Very very interesting prep bat.

Coby Mayo is an incredible human being. He was on campus as a sophomore during the Stoneman Douglas shooting. That's not what should define him but know he's strong as hell.

Well there’s an over slot. Probably won’t take a ton over either. Maybe I was right before when I said they could go a little over on 3-5 vs going way over on #30

This feels exactly like his Rio Ruiz selection in 2012.

Maybe in a couple years we can trade him to wherever Elias ends up after he gets burnt out by the Angeloses. :)

Showed really well in that interview.  Seems like a great kid.  Will be easy to root for him.

Ciolek says he has 70 grade raw power that he thinks will translate to games.

Have to like the makeup of Mayo,  Hopefully the Orioles get him signed and eventually on the field.

Jeremy mentioned in another thread, but he's already signed for $1.75M compared to $566k for his slot.

$1.75M is just over what slot is for the 43rd pick.

I am still not excited about our draft, but feel a lot better now that it looks like they went overslot to Mayo and Baumier

I was really high on Jordan Walker's profile and was hoping he'd get to the Orioles at 30 or maybe even 39.

Coby Mayo seems to have a pretty similar profile.

They were also using the Austin Riley comp for him on the draft shows and while we don't really know what Riley will be, that feels pretty reasonable just in terms of projection.

I was trying to think of kind of a high end comp and I'll go with Troy Glaus.

On a Zoom call with reporters this afternoon, #Orioles fourth-round pick Coby Mayo confirms he's decided to forgo his Florida commitment and sign overslot deal with O's. Reports have pegged the deal in the $1.7-1.75 mill range.

All these kids are going to need to adjust to professional life, but the good news is that after a long down year, guys like Mayo are finally getting into games.
