Before COVID, what percentage of the time did you work from home? 

 

Going forward.... will you work from home more often?

Do you like working from home? 
Prefer being in an office?

I love it...I don’t know what we will be doing but the talk is that we will be going to the office 1-2 days a week.

I hope to be able to telework for at least 2 days a week for the long term.

For now, as much as I can would be great.

I work from home unless I’m in court. I definitely prefer it although you can get cabin fever. Fortunately I am in court enough that I don’t ever feel like I need to get out or I’ll lose my mind.

One downside of working from home is that everyone calls on you for ride favors, airport etc.

As an aside, when courts reopen I am hearing most dockets will be extremely limited. Meaning suits filed will be pushed out months upon months.

Nothing has changed at the post office other than we now have Christmas time parcels during what is usually our slow time. Mail volume is down a bit, packages are WAY up.

I worked from home on Mondays/Fridays before all of this but much more prefer working in the office. Curious to see how this changes our dynamic. Main office is in DC with about 20 employees, my office is in Virginia with 5 employees, and the other half of the company is spread across the globe. 

 

With business at an all-time high and things running so smoothly with everyone at home, I imagine the five of us in my office go remote with our office lease running up in a few months.

I could do 90+% of my job working remotely. Would still prefer to go in the office 1-2 times a week but hopefully this will allow for more opportunities for flexible working moving forward.

I currently spend at least half my time at work in closed rooms and on secured systems, and that obviously cannot be done from home. I'd really like to get back to more open work, but even that it's rare to be able to do ops remotely, mostly need to be at the control center. There is a good portion of work that can be done remotely. Writing documentation being a major one.

But I don't think I'd want to ever go to regularly working from home. Once or twice a week would be good. Every day would start feeling claustrophobic.

Even above, 83% of my industry can easily work from home, I'm WAY more productive here in a fraction of the time. I limit to a couple clients intentionally, but I could take on quite a few if I was willing to work full time doing this. We just don't really NEED the money, and being around for 3 kids under 12 is saving us a ton already.

For me, getting back 4 hours a day of my life, not to mention not getting up at 5am, changes my perspective on working from home.

I never wanted to be a work from home person but I have a dedicated office in my house and the time (and money) saved from commuting is enormous.

Yeah, my wife can't really work from home, being a school administrator (once they are back to normal), but the time she loses commuting there and back in the evening, not to mention late meetings PTA and junk like that are the real impacts to our family. I can deal with the during the school day period easy, but there's only one of me, and when one kid has to be at this place for Volleyball practice for 2 hours, and then this one has to be at soccer practice 20 miles away at the same time it's impossible. Not to mention the little one will be old enough to have her own schedule here pretty soon.

 

I can't bring myself to hire a nanny just to help ferry to sports and back, but we are almost at that point, and it's that commute that causes it. If she left at 430 and home by 5 we could swing it. When she doesn't make it home til 6-630 it doesn't work.
