The question now is, what to do with 500 cards that aren’t worth a dime? Hold onto them for 30 years like the 10,000 I have in my basement?

If you have 10,000 add the 500 to them.  You never know.  That Austin Wynns card is going to be worth something when he makes the HOF.

Got my hands on some Bowman 2020 hobby packs today.  $12/each but I pulled a $100 Luis Robert card.

Running hot lately!

I posted this in the WWE thread cause it mentioned Jim Crockett...his daughter ran the Charlotte O’s, and is going in the Southern League HOF this year.

Anywho, Cool article about the scarcity of Ripken’s first ever baseball card, 1980 for the AA, Charlotte O’s, as many of the packs with the card were made for a promotional night and packs were left in the stands, tossed, swept up and trashed, or leftover cases of cards lost in a fire that burned down Crockett Field.

Ripken’s name was spelled right on the front but misspelled on the back. (Ripkin)

Only 88 of these first ever Cal cards have been submitted for grading by the top agencies as of a week ago.

On that note, got my first “hobby box”.

2020 Topps Series 1. I’ve bought plenty of retail. I’ll open it tonight and compare the hauls.

Hot streak ended.  Opened a Bowman 2020 Hobby Box.

The good news is, the "good" cards in there were Red Sox and Yankees so I will be immediately selling them.

Ha, I added a new card to my PC (personal collection) today.  An autographed Adam Jones Upper Deck rookie card.  It was graded 10 (gem mint) by PSA.  Will sit proudly on my bookshelf.

Well, no auto, had a relic instead. Paul DeJong. Boring.

Hobby box was better than retail. But at a higher price point. Retail packs come 16 cards to a pack at $3 a pack. Bought 22 packs total from a few different Targets. Hobby packs are 14 to a pack, 24 packs in box, plus a "silver pack" of four specialty cards.

Retail - $66/356 cards = $0.19/card

Hobby - $110/340 cards = $0.33/card (you can get the hobby a little cheaper online, but I went to a local shop. Least I can do, pandemic crushing small biz and all).

I'd say the major difference was some of the players in the parallels. Two rainbow foils I pulled from retail were pretty rough cut and wouldn't grade well, but also nothing special. Tim Anderson, meh. Nick Senzel, maybe. The two rainbow foils from hobby were Yelich and Judge and looked to be in great shape. The gold parallels (1/2020) in retail were Tyler Naquin and Jorge Alfaro. Yuck. The ones from hobby were Rendon, Soto.

Also had no Trout's in the retail, and had two in the hobby, one being a throwback Topps design. Wonder if that is by design to put Trout, who is card #1 on the checklist, in hobby and not so much in retail. Or random luck.

Hobby also had an Aaron Judge short print. Short prints come one in every 43 hobby packs. So every other box? Guess I grabbed the right one.

Time to set up an ebay store!

Nice. Are you planning to sell your base cards too? Doesn’t seem worth it given fees and shipping

I don't think so. But I wonder if I could sell the Aaron Judge as a set. The base, the foil, and the SP and charge more. Or if I could charge an extra few bucks for an Alvarez rookie card if I throw in Verlander, Springer, Altuve base cards for a Houston fan.

Also have 696 cards, the base set is 350 cards. I may have to put them in order and see if I have a full set. I know I only have the one Trout though, and I feel like he's this era's Griffey. I won't want to part with Trout cards.

Just scooped up 10 packs of Bowman 2020 from my LCS.  I had a 20% discount.  Hoping I land the auto out of the box!  Got a 40% chance!

Good luck. I thought about that when I bought the Series 1 hobby box. I could have bought individual hobby packs, but then you don’t get the silver pack that comes in that box either.

I guess if the box was full you could buy 5 packs, rip em on site. No luck, buy five more, repeat til you get your hit.

Ha true.  Dunno if the store owner would like that too much lol, but I'm sure people do it.

No auto in mine, in fact a ton of duds.  $100 or so down the drain.

Reminds me, did you say what your auto was in Series 1?

Damn.

No auto in mine. Relic, Paul DeJong.

The jumbo hobby box guarantees an auto and two relics. Might look out for that when Series 2 comes out on the 26th. 10 packs of 46 cards and I think two silver packs of four.

Guys...I’m just letting you know that I will have a way for you to sell your cards soon and with lower fees than eBay.

Will keep you updated.
