My wife and I will be attending FanFest today with heavy hearts.

R.I.P. Earl of Baltimore.

I was too young to ever get to experience Earl's teams. I've read a ton about him. He was a genius. I loved his rants. I love that Buck Showalter looks a lot like Earl Weaver. I love that his contributions to the organiztion are a HUGE part of why my dad was able to tell me so many great stories about the O's when he was growing up.

Sad, sad day.

The Earl of Baltimore, will miss you!

Fanfest will be a bit sad, today. Taking my mom, she's a huge Earl fan.

Great read. I somehow had never heard this little nugget... this is gold:

When asked one time by Orioles outfielder Pat Kelly if he wanted to participate in team chapel and “walk with the lord,” Weaver famously replied: (“No thanks. I’d rather walk with the (bleeping) bases loaded.”

This is me as well.

Earl's imprint on this team will be felt forever.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Way too young to remember him, but this does suck. I'm sure FanFest will have a little bit of a different feel than usual.

I know it's last minute but I hope the team does something to honor a great man.

In my quest to soak up the energy at the park, I came up for the last series and present for Brooks' day. I got as close as I could for the ceremony, which wasn't close at all. When I saw Earl appear, I cried. He was the man when I first fell in love with the Os.

I'm glad I got a chance to cheer for him. He was the greatest.

Roch tweeted that they are hanging his number above the main stage and I saw somewhere that uniform was being displayed.

I started following this team after Earl was long gone so I can't relate to watching him, but from all the things I've seen, he was the driving force behind the Orioles in the late 60's, 70's and early 80's.

He made the manager an integral part of the game and the way he managed changed baseball.

RIP Earl.

I said many times last year that it was great they were doing the Legends Series while they were all still alive (and well). Good thing they did it when they did. RIP Earl!

RIP #4. The Earl of Baltimore was certainly one of a kind. Evidently he collapsed while on the Oriole cruise.

And as much as it seemed like stuff like that didn't really interest Earl at all, the statue definitely did. He was very emotional talking about his statue. I know he loved that exprience.

Earl was the first to use a lot of the stats that are held in high value today. Things like OBP, were something I first heard discussed by Earl. I am not sure. Earl's fiery approach with the players would play today but he certainly left his mark on the game.

He's the most significant figure in the history of the modern Orioles. He will be missed.
