He was unbelievable. It's a shame these two teams aren't meeting for the city championship. I think the bigger court would give City a fighting chance against Poly's height. Once they got that big league it was too much for City to overcome.

What’s even worse is that they are in the same section in the state tournament, deeming the new quarterfinal re-seed format meaningless to one of the two. The two best teams in 3A North Section II are Edgewood and CM Wright, both of whom sit outside the MPSSAA Top 50.

Definitely 2 of the best teams in the state. Too bad they are gonna meet that early in the playoffs. I'm more salty though about City blowing that game against Lake after leading for most of the game. I knew Tree would be tough but City absolutely collapsed in the 4th qtr with turnovers and missed free throws.

Yesterday City came out slow and only scored 6 pts. in the 1st qtr. With Murray raining 3's from everywhere that was too much of a deficit to overcome. They actually showed a lot of heart in keeping the final score under double digits.

Beating Poly in a high school gym is tough because they have so much height. A bigger court like Morgan's would help to even things out some.

Wow. That kid can play. He was matching Murray from Poly several times in that game that had the crowd going crazy. I feel like we're getting cheated in the city championship not seeing those 2 teams play again on a neutral court.

I would consider Sparrows Point in the 60-65.  They beat Milford and was tied with New Town until mid 4th qtr.

Sparrows Point is 8-7, which would give them the second worst record among the top 64. #60 North Point (10-9) would be decimal points behind them in win percentage, but the Eagles qualities wins and quality losses puts Sparrows Point to shame. They have lost to Towson and Eastern Tech, which would also give them the worst pair of losses among every team in the top 64. They lost that game to New Town by 21. They have zero top 50 wins. The list goes on.

I was at the New Town game.  Sparrows Point was down by 2 at half and was within 4 at the end of the 3rd.  But I understand your reasoning

Yea, that is surprising. I’m not totally dismissing Sparrows Point, with a win over Milford Mill, but I have them at about #80, which is still among the top 40% in the MPSSAA. They also have a win over Loch Raven, which looked much better two weeks ago then it does now.

Though I have Wise as the favorites, I don’t remember the 4A so wide open going into the quarterfinal round.

This year’s 4A playoffs were impacted in a net-minus way by the transfer portal than it has quite possibly in the history of the MPSSAA. As many as four teams were devastatingly affected by the ever-increasing portal.

Though certain schools are affected every year, this year’s transfers portal’s class migration to the private sector stands out as one of the most notable, with a quartet of projected (as of last March) 4A quarterfinalists severely impacted.

Most years, the public school teams come up with a net-plus in the transfer portal, for reasons varying from lack of playing time in the privates, cost, or the desire to play and go to school with the kids you grow up playing with, among others.

A year ago, the 4A Final Four and state title game looked to be one for the ages, with Eleanor Roosevelt looking to defend their title, and Dulaney and Gaithersburg appearing to be the favorites in 4A. That’s before 6’6 Che Evans (San Diego St commit) left Dulaney for Neumann Goretti PA, and 6’6 junior Ike Cornish (offers from G’town and Xavier, among others) left the Lions for Legacy Early College High School in Greenville, South Carolina, and before 6’5 junior Jordan Hawkins (Marquette, Seton Hall, Xavier offers, among others) left Gaithersburg for DeMatha.

With the Lions retaining junior guard Ryan Conway (offers from Stanford, Seton Hall, and Marquette, among others) and 6’6 Cameron Byers (averaged 24.7 over last 6 games), and the Trojans bringing back junior guard Jao Itaku (averaged better than 27 points per game this season). The talent on the court would have been above exceptional, relatively speaking.

Annapolis topped the Anne Arundel County regular season standings this season, but lost to Northeast in the county championship game. You have to imagine that the 21 win Panthers would be that much better with junior standout guard Byron Ireland, who left for St Frances. Likewise,

Bowie, who finished third in the time-tested, highly regarded PG 4A league, would have been competing for a PG championship, and at least a 4A Final Four berth had Bowie’s Kyree Freeman-Davis not left for Rock Creek Christian. In all, among Dulaney, Gaithersburg, Nap Town and Bowie, together the 4A lost arguably 5 of what would have been 12-15 best players in the MPSSAA this season.

But, what looked like a legendary 2020 4A bracket a year ago, wasn’t to be.
