Does "start of competition" mean first game or first practice?

BSL: College Football 2020: An Intra-Conference Only Season?
A quick perspective on what the 2020-21 season might look like.
EDIT: I updated the article to note the Pac-12's announcement an hour ago that they are joining the Big Ten in going to a conference-only football schedule.

If a conference only schedule is to cut back on the number of games expecting that they will have a shortened season then I get that.
But if its a travel based restriction then it doesn't pass the snicker test. How can it be ok for Washington State to travel to LA but not to drive 8 miles down the road to play U of Idaho????

I think pro sports happen but college sports add an entire extra layer of complexity. I doubt we see a fall season.
And college football, given the sheer number of people involved, is probably the most complex sport of all in a pandemic. I don't see how it happens either. These announcements of conference-only schedules are just kicking the can down the road. I think around the end of this month we're going to get the announcement college football fans are dreading....no games this fall.

As painful as it is to admit, I think y'all are correct. Just not going to be any fall college sports.

I think it means I am not going to have an excuse for not doing things around the house on Saturday.

That's where I'm at too, making unpaid athletes show up on campus if no other students will be on campus would look pretty terrible I think

If you need to delay next season till October that’s fine.
There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty
