Just got back from a week at the OBX. Family has owned a place there for almost 30 years now. Even quieter than usual down there I thought. Getting takeout was pretty difficult though. Just meant more grilling!

I wonder why that is? Seems odd. But we usually cook primarily when we're down there. Usually try and grab some Bad Bean once or twice for lunch, then Black Pelican one night for dinner.

We are real not touristy kinda beach people, wife went to Salisbury and I lived at the beach a few years so we kinda like the desolate nothing to do but the house and beach vibe. We stay way south down in Hatteras usually where it’s even quieter. But we go with a couple other families so we are always entertained. More like Island Time vs the constant go go go of like OC. Fishing, kayaking in the sound, pool, hot tub super laid back, no plans, just relaxing.

I get that, but with kids and grandkids, doing beachy things, like funnel cakes on the boardwalk, arcade at the boardwalk, mini golf. When we do beachy vacations, usually its about 50-50 relaxation in the water and go-go. But, this year was extremely nice, first time in a while, we found a place big enough for us all under 1 roof, and not sharing a pool with strangers was nice, that you didnt have to watch your kids every nano second.

Our kids have only been to OC once in their life for one night. They’ve grown up with their cousins going to Hatteras so they’ve never known any different. We have gone with people who typically do that same kinda vacay and their kids drove everyone nuts cause they wanted to constantly be entertained and just didn’t understand the concept that here is vacation...you just relax. Video games, board games, puzzles, fishing, kayaking, the pool, the hot tub. Whatever you wanna do but we are just hanging out so go do something.

That in itself just has a certain amount of stress relief, like you said, not having to “watch” them constantly.
