Great stuff as usual Chris. DD walked the line with his vague and political answers. I guess I'd behave in the same way if I was in his position.

Btw, why was this deleted from the OH? Was that by your request or others didn't want any overlap? Feel free to answer me in politico-speak if need be. ;)

I understand that this Q&A was posted in two threads on OH, and that both threads were deleted. That was not my request.

I've said it before. OH is a great site because of the posters who exist there. I'm happy that many of the best OH posters (including yourself) have registered for an account here. I think Tony deserves credit for the moderation he has provided on OH, which has allowed that board to flourish. He certainly can run his board as he deems fit.

One thing I will continue to do on this board, is link to the many blogs and sites around town that report on the O's, (and Ravens, and Terps). Content is content, and good discussion is good discussion.

FWIW, Tony posted on the board today and said he hasn't really been around the site for a few days...So, I don't think he was the one who deleted it.

Either way, its obviously a relevant thing to be posted on an Orioles message board, so it had no business being taken off.

That sounds excellent Chris. You and Greg would definitely be great!

If you guys have other thoughts / suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

Use this thread (http://baltimorespor...c.php?f=10&t=56) for any and all ideas.

Some great advice here, that I will attempt to keep in-mind going forward! Often when I read back my interviews, I come back to a similar conclusion. As I'm writing them (with people I know I will not be able to interview often), I sometimes feel compelled to try and ask 'everything.'

I certainly can understand that inclination, and I wouldn't even take my own advice with all of the people you interview. I'm sure there are some local beat writers who are willing to answer you with as much care as you put into your questions, in which case your thoroughness is a strength.

SG brought up the limitations of your interview methods. Do you think people might be willing to answer a follow up round of email questions based on their initial responses?

Typically no. I posted a Terps interview with Seth Davis (SI, CBS) last week. Just like Mr. Duquette, Mr. Davis was extremely gracious to take the time to answer a few questions. However, I worked to get that Q&A for 4 months. I wouldn't be in position to go back to him for a follow.

However, going back to the podcast idea... I could wind-up doing some of these Q&A's in that format. Might make for more natural, concise questions, with logical follow-up.

Or you could just conduct an interview over the phone and then record the conversation a la StrawDawg!

I would love to hear your opinion on what those things might be

Some of my takeaways:

1) There will be a further $ investment into the Pro Scouting side, but maybe not additional man power.
2) Further changes to the Player Development side could be forthcoming.
3) If he feels Cespedes is a difference making talent, he won't be scared by the asking price. If the O's do not bid at that level (or choose to bid at all), that would be Duquette saying he does not believe Cespedes to worth it. Simple enough concept I guess.
4) His comments about Jones, does not read to me as just words. He starts with reminding about Jones being a GG winner, and closes with saying he is valued in CF.
5) Hopes Wieters is an Oriole long-term. Does that mean he believes the ball is in Wieters court regarding an extension?

Have a few other thoughts, but I'm interested to hear what others see in his comments.

Curious if others read his comments similarly, or had different thoughts?

Yup, it is one of the better Duq interviews out there... Absolutely ridiculous that the threads were removed, there's no need for OH to be so insecure. As a long time member of OH, that pissed me off.

Duquette: “My goal is to build depth in this organization through a combination of aggressive recruiting and disciplined player development. We want to be competitive and strive for success immediately, but we are not going to be at our destination goal in year one. I expect to identify a strong core and let competition decide who our complimentary pieces will be this spring.”

While most of Duquette's moves this Winter have been about building the organization; he continues to make moves to improve the overall roster depth for 2012 in search of some immediate improvement.
