Brandon Gaddy, Breyon Gaddy, and Paul Inzerillo have all entered the transfer portal. Let the transfers begin...

It's so frustrating.

Apparently Locksley was very much on board with the Gaddy twins transferring.

Their impending departure only makes the need to move Fontaine back to defense more glaring.

Maybe it's slow to update, but 24x7's portal list does not show him yet.

There's always a pause after a Comma.

Since we're talking about the transfer portal....a name that might ring a bell to those who follow Terps recruiting, RB Mychale Salahuddin, put his name in the portal to leave Pitt. He was one of the top RB recruits in the country in the 2018 class out of DC, originally committed to USC, then looked seriously at the Terps, before choosing Pitt. He redshirted his freshman season and didn't play at all this year due mostly to injuries.

Barring a hardship waiver, he'd have to sit out 2020. He would have at least two seasons of eligibility starting in 2021, and perhaps a third if he could get a medical redshirt for this past season.

Special teams coordinator/inside linebackers coach John Papuchis recruited him while he was at North Carolina, so there's another Maryland connection there as well.

Transfer portal should be Marylands friend. Yeah, some guys are going to leave, (guys part of a loser team mind you) but it's also the opportunity to get guys who were once too good to go to Maryland, but later found out they aren't good enough to start at your elite programs. So they take a step down for playing time. Those are guys that can bring your program up.

RB Anthony McFarland, Jr. is leaving early for the NFL. Now waiting on Javon Leake's decision.

It's not just MD, it's pretty much every team. This sort of offseason movement is the new normal in college football, IMO.

Also, add DB Fofie Bazzie to the list of Terps in the portal.

Leake will also be leaving early for the draft, so the Terps will be without their 2 best offensive players next season.

With Tayon Fleet-Davis' legal status up in the air, and Lorenzo Harrison III and Jake Funk both recovering from their second season-ending knee injuries in their careers, losing both McFarland, Jr. and Leake is a huge blow for the team.

Fortunately, there are two talented freshmen in next year's class. Peny Boone and Ebony Jackson are very highly-ranked 3-star recruits. Both are big backs, standing 6'2" and 6'1", respectively and both Top 30 backs in the country. They should have the opportunity for plenty of early playing time in 2020.

If the older guys are available and you have these Freshman, backs should be fine.

If the older guys are not there, ehhh...

This is where they really needed that Elijah Brooks addition to the staff to pay off and bring in Marshawn Lloyd. Oh well.

WR MJ Jarrell is in the transfer portal now. He hardly played, but I bring it up to illustrate the transient nature of college football these days. He is the last receiver from the 2017 class, none of whom made much of an impact on the field during their time at UM, to announce his departure.

I went back and looked at that class just now. It's known for being the best class, by ranking, that MD has had since there was such a thing as rankings. Per 24x7 it was #18 in the country, #4 in the Big Ten.

But take a look at the names on that list, and consider how few are still going to be around after just three seasons, let alone make an impact as 4th year players. Most will have transferred. Some were derailed by injuries. A couple had off-field issues. Two are leaving early for the NFL. And most notably, one tragically lost his life.

In summary, I think it's accurate to say recruiting and developing players over 4-5 years plays a much smaller role today in how you build a program. Recruiting players who can step in and play from Day 1, and working the transfer market have a much bigger part now.

The QO legacy continues. Twine has been the only one to stay all four years.
