Meanwhile players on the 40 man roster get $1100 I think weekly during the shutdown.

Only if they ended the season on a major league roster or something so I don’t think it helps guys like Akin or McKenna unless I read something wrong.

That was the original report but is not correct. Any player on a 40-man roster can get the weekly allowance, which goes until April 9.

Good to hear. Don’t understand why they won’t do something for the minor leaguers even if it’s less money and/or less frequent. The people that will be fine get all the assistance?

MLBPA union does not include minor leaguers.

So basically, no one fights for the rights of minor leaguers.

Billionaire owners should adopt minor leaguers.

It's basically just a very minor per diem stipend money for housing, food, etc. for the rest of ST (April 8). It covers what they were supposed to get between now and MiLB Opening Day if the season was under normal conditions.

We'll see what, if anything, happens after.

Yeah one guy I know said it's basically just their food allowance, or most of it paid out all at once. Makes it look like they are doing something to help, when really they are just giving them they should have already. Day one in camp those players should get all that money instead of paying out over time.

I read they are working on doing SOMETHING for them. I mean really, the money is so below poverty would it really kill ML teams to fund all the minor leaguers in their system during the shutdown? Most of those teams are paying more in expenses they waste and throw away.

MLB is ruthless.  They are randomly cutting cities that have supported them for years.  Jobs lost, businesses hurt.  Manfred sucks.

Interesting new wrinkle to potentially keep more than 120 minor league teams.

https://www.baseball...ing-table-soon/

There is a chance that the proposal may come with a significant new twist. Multiple MLB personnel said they have heard MLB is strongly considering the possibility of flipping high Class A and low Class A leagues.

If it did so, the Florida State League, California League and Carolina League would be the low Class A leagues moving forward, while the Northwest, Midwest and South Atlantic leagues would constitute high Class A. There is a possibility that there would be four high Class A leagues in this iteration with a smaller South Atlantic League and a six-team Mid-Atlantic League as well.

Such a move could make significant logistical sense. Teams could promote/demote players from a low Class A team in the Florida State League by simply moving them from one clubhouse to another. Such a move would also provide an easier transition as players would remain at their complexes while still getting their first taste of full-season ball.

The warmer weather climate of all three low Class A leagues in this plan would also allow players from the Dominican Republic and other Central American countries to adjust to their first season of full-season ball without it also being their first exposure to the bracing cold that often is part of the Midwest League and now potentially the Northwest League in April.

While MLB has considered flipping the Class A leagues, that could open the door for a potential compromise option that has been floated by some MiLB clubs to keep more teams afloat than the proposed 120.

In this plan, the Florida State League could play the first half of the season in Florida and then head to the cities of the existing New York-Penn League sites for the second half of the season.

FSL clubs aren’t generally big draws overall, but getting fans to games gets even tougher in the second half of the season. By that point many snowbirds have headed back North. Also, the weather gets hot and more humid with regular thunderstorms during the afternoons. In such a scenario, the NY-P would get close to the same number of games as it currently get as a short-season league while the FSL would jettison the worst-performing time of its season.

A similar case could be made with Arizona complexes and the Northwest League. Baseball America has learned that there are Northwest League teams that are not sure if they want to switch to full-season ball. A similar plan could conceivably be laid out where teams could play at their complexes in Arizona from April through mid-June and then head to the Northwest League.

I believe the Yankees are the first team to announce their new minor league affiliation:

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (same)

AA: Somerset (change from Trenton - new MiLB team)

High-A: Hudson Valley (change from Tampa)

Low-A: Tampa (change from Charleston)

By their announcement on twitter, it sounds like another team will pick-up Charleston. Staten Island and Pulaski are eliminated, and judging by SI's post, it appears they found out via NYY's social media.

Moving Tampa to Low-A is logical as it is the site of their Spring Training home, which is where the youngest players will start out. It also jives with my above post which puts the Florida State League as a Low-A league, moving from High-A.

Houston has reached agreement with the Sugar Land Skeeters to relocate their AAA team there. It's the third Indy League site to join the ranks of affiliated baseball. (Somerset, NYY and St. Paul, MIN)

The Dodgers’ Triple-A (Oklahoma City) and Double-A (Tulsa) affiliations will remain intact. A source with direct knowledge of the situation told SCNG that a team based in Spokane, Washington will replace Rancho Cucamonga as the team’s High-A affiliate. Rancho Cucamonga will remain affiliated with the Dodgers, and join other California League teams in moving from a High-A to Low-A classification.

What was the Pioneer League will now be an independent partner league of MLB.

All eight members - Billings Mustangs, Grand Junction Rockies, Great Falls Voyagers, Idaho Falls Chukars, Missoula Paddleheads, Ogden Raptors, Orem Owlz and the Rocky Mountain Vibes - have agreed to participate.

MLB is also forcing the Fresno Grizzlies to decide to become a Low-A team in the new Low-A California League or go independent. Fresno was most recently a Triple-A team, associated with the Nationals.

Sounds like the previously-independent St. Paul Saints will be the new Twins AAA affiliate, no surprise after they cut ties with Rochester.

Wichita Wind Surge (who had yet to play a game as the Marlins AAA affiliate) will now be the Twins' Double-A team. Surely disappointing for Wichita taxpayers, who paid for a brand new stadium in 2019.

If I was Wichita, I would be pissed. Totally unbelievable the collateral damage by MLB.
