Airing on NFL Network. 100-31 revealed. Top 30 to air Friday night.

Ed Reed’s 107 yard INT return vs the Eagles was number 63. Only Ravens play on the list so far. Have to think Mile High Miracle is top-30, but if not they can take their list and shove it. Considering blunders like Butt Fumble, Leon Lett, and Garo Yepremian are on the list.

Have to think the top of the list includes “The Catch”, Immaculate Reception, Tyree helmet catch, Odell one handed grab, Philly Special.

Though not flashy, Hope Ameche scoring the winning TD in the most important game in NFL history is up there.

Thoughts? Your favorite plays? What should be best all-time?

Jim Marshall's wrong-way run should have ranked higher. It's something you just never see. 

 

Tom Dempsey's 63-yard field goal should be up there, especially considering Dempsey's physical handicap and the fact that it beat the previous record by seven yards. I'd also think that Dallas' Hail Mary against Minnesota in the 1975 division playoff would rank very high. That play coined more or less coined the term "Hail Mary."

 

Other candidates should be Malcolm Butler's goal-line interception in Super Bowl Whatever-It-Was against Seattle, as well as Julian Edleman's catch against Atlanta two years later. Brady's fumble in the snow against Oakland in the 2001 playoffs introduced us all to the infamous "Tuck Rule."

 

I wonder if Sammy Baugh's ill-fated pass from his own end zone in the 1945 championship against Cleveland (Rams) made the list. Back then, a pass from a team's end zone which hit the goal post was ruled a safety. Washington lost the game by one point, 15-14, and the rule was changed the following year.

 

I'd guess that Bart Starr's TD against Dallas in the waning seconds of the Ice Bowl would merit a top 10 spot. It wasn't spectacular, but it resulted in a third straight NFL title for Green Bay, a feat which hasn't been accomplished since the advent of the championship game, and hasn't been done since. The sheer brutality of the weather made that game legendary.

 

I'd agree whole-heartedly about Ameche's run. As stated above, it wasn't flashy, but that run and the game in which it occurred had an impact which went far beyond December 28, 1958.

Agree on all counts. Though I hope the tuck rule isn’t a “play” on the list. The kick was incredible to watch though. You can barely see and the snow is deep, and I still don’t know how it was possible.

There is going to be a lot of debate. I’d like to know what the criteria is for how they made their rankings. One I have a big problem with is the Manningham catch from SB 46 was #31. Like it was meaningful in that game, but it wasn’t a TD, it didn’t win the game, and a similar catch is made weekly in this league. Another is the Willie Brown INT that is one of NFL Films most famous clips, running it back right at the camera. It’s like it made the list because the shot is famous. The play, again, happens on a weekly basis. I also get the the magnitude of game matters.

All the Aaron Rodgers Hail Marys are on the list already, so the original has to be on there soon. Other plays with names not mentioned yet are “Ghost to the Post”, “Holy Roller”.

I honestly don't know how Eli to Tyree in 2008 isn't the #1 play.

 

It's the best play in NFL history. I still can't get over that it happened.
