Here it is from someone that has coached for a minute. Dunbar's Championships have come in 1A mostly. 1 in 2A and 1 in 3A. If City, Patterson, Edmondson and Mervo had stayed in 1A all those years, I bet you they would've had state championships. When Dunbar loses in the city, people want to say oh it's a down year for the city or Dunbar is not good but when they make a run in the playoffs then they are peeking. Mervo beat Dunbar in 2014, 2015, 2016. Lost in 2017 and 2018. Won 2019. 4 wins out of 6 years. Trust me 4A is a lot more respected than 1A. The years Mervo list to Howard, 1 year they went to the state title game and the other the semi finals. All of their wins have come on the road. Dunbar and Mervo are respected programs state wide along with Edmondson, Patterson. Dunbar will be in the semi finals this year because they are in 1A. Bar injury Mervo will at least see the 2nd round in 3A. Big difference. Go Baltimore City!

There is only 1 city program that has a state championship other than Dunbar and that is Edmondson in 2A. Douglass went back to back in 1A. Baltimore has a losing record when it comes to the states. I believe when Mervo 1st beat Dunbar someone said the same thing oh this is the worst Dunbar team. Who is making excuses.

I'm not making excuses for Dunbar. Mervo is better this year. Dunbar is dropping off as a program. Dunbar is the one program that represented success for Baltimore City on the state championship level. It saddens me with the fall of Dunbar nobody will represent Baltimore City on the state championship level. I will at least root Baltimore County as Franklin brings home another state championship

Dunbar is not dropping off as a program. They are a staple. Again Mervo has beaten them 4 out of 6 years. Dunbar plays 1A there is no reason they won't make it back to the semi finals. If you are Baltimore, you should root for all Baltimore City schools. 1A: Dunbar, Lewis, 2A: Edmondson, Lake, Carver 3A: Mervo, CITY all will represent Baltimore in the state playoffs.

Just making it to the semifinals in 1A IS dropping off as a program. Dunbar should never not be in the finals in 1A.

Edmondson, Lake, and Carver are all 1A schools now. We need coaching trailblazers within Baltimore City coaching ranks. Stanley Mitchell was one such trailblazer at Dunbar, Ben Eaton, and Lawrence Smith truly represented Baltimore City and spoke often of it showed Baltimore City beating folks across the state and bringing home championships. Pete Pompey was a coaching giant and Dante Jones built a special Edmondson team. We need football coaches that compare with the basketball giant of coaches - Tree, Sam Brand, Harry Martin, Keith Booth - the football coaches simply dont come with the same pedigree

You mentioned Dunbar coaches. What about Roger Wrenn, George Petridges, Aggie Wabell, Coach Barnes of Forest Park. These were traiblazers. Ben Eaton, Lawrence Smith and Donte Jones all inherited their programs. Hell you can even put Elwood Townsend in the mix because he took Douglass to 2 State Championship games. When you talk basketball Baltimore City is suppose to win Championships because we are considered one of the meccas for basketball but with all of those state championships where are the kids going to college?

Elwood Townsend belongs in the mix. Waibel belongs in the mix. Wrenn couldn't compete at the state level.

All of Polys basketball players play on the next level. 2 of Pattersons starters earned scholarships, one is at juco, and the other is at prep school. Lake Cliftons players are playing on the next level

Baltimore City is a mecca for talent period. We just need top notch coaches to cultivate that talent

Have to agree with that. Mervo has proven to be for real by virtue of beating Howard and Paint Branch in the State playoffs, but Franklin has played the toughest public schedule (by going against the best private schools in the state) and has gotten it done in the Title game 3 times. Hell they just went up and bet one of the top teams in New York last week. Until you can beat them, your claims of 3A state title favorite just dont hold water.

Coaching not because of talent. Offensive playcalling has been suspect at times over the last 15 years, regardless of titles that were won
