With Lewis' commitment, Maryland's 2021 class jumps up one spot nationally to 18th and remains at 4th in the conference.

Also worth noting that Lewis is an early enrollee, so he'll be participating in spring practices. Should see a lot of the field as a true freshman.

Assuming there are spring practices.
From what I understood he actually signed and sent in his LOI during the early period, but didn't want it announced until the UA game today.

Defense will have huge athletic upgrades in the Front 7.
I thought they actually took a step forward this year.
At the minimum, the 2 deep is going to be much deeper...
Stacking classes.
Now see what Locksley can to do in the transfer market.

And it should not go without mention that Brian Williams has had what is almost certainly the most prolific recruiting year a MD assistant has ever had (including Locksley). With the Lewis commit 24x7 currently has him as the #4 assistant in terms of how he recruited in 2021. And since the Top 3 are all Alabama guys, he's obviously #1 in the Big Ten right now.

The NBC work is easy when you're just making up what you report.

Maryland has landed five 5-star recruits in the last 20 years. Locksley is responsible for all of them.
Actually MD has had six 5-stars if you count Melvin Alaeze, who was released from UM for missing classes before he ever played in a single game. Locksley had no role in him choosing MD, although interestingly Locksley eventually landed him too....to Illinois where Locksley was OC, and where Alaeze was also kicked out and eventually landed in prison for armed robbery.

Locks and staff continue to surprise. Hit the transfer market to replace those who have left.

Following the addition of Terrence Lewis, Brian Williams is currently ranked as the 5th-best recruiter in the country. Good chance he'll get some interest from other teams which may prompt a promotion to co-defensive coordinator.

Remaining targets still out there for Maryland:
- 4-star WR Charles Montgomery (Valrico, FL)
- 4-star WR Titus Mokiao-Atimalala (Ewa Beach, HI)
- 3-star C Michael Myslinski (Jacksonville, FL)
- 3-star LB Trace Campbell (Hyattsville, MD)
Montgomery recently decommitted from Florida, and Joker Phillips has been attempting to land him. Mokiao-Atimalala is Taulia Tagovailoa's cousin, and Campbell is Chance Campbell's brother. The team is going after Myslinski hard after he decommitted from Texas recently. John Reagan was part of his recruitment, but George Helow appears to be leading it.

What are you hearing about QB’s transfers to Maryland. The depth there is very lacking.

Nothing imminent at the moment, that’s the current 2021 priority along with adding an offensive lineman or two. They’re also apparently working on 3-star QB Billy Wiles from Stone Bridge HS in Ashburn, but he might be a preferred walk-on situation.

I’ll also say that they’re very happy with Eric Najarian and David Foust, and see them as more than capable backups despite being walk-ons.

Thanks Zack. Just from my viewpoint, given Maryland's injury history at the QB position, I say, more please!

This is why letting Caleb get away was a bit of a blow. Now, he may not have been a good fit for the system, but we've gotta find a way to get into the top QB talks and one in your backyard is how that starts.
Maybe they can bring Fridge in to be the OC (how bout that for some fun reversal and irony under Locks?) and boost the offense?

I actually checked. Fridge is 73 years old. It would be fun to see if he was even interested.

If Locksley couldn't talk Williams into staying home, I'm not sure anyone could've. He was all-in on Oklahoma from day one, and with Lincoln Riley's record of developing quarterbacks you can't really blame him. Of course with the state of college football nowadays, if he doesn't win the starting job soon he could find his way back home via the transfer portal.
2022 doesn't offer a ton in terms of local signal-callers, but 3-star dual-threats Preston Howard (McDonogh) and Jayden Sauray (Wise) will be on Locksley's board along with 3-star pro-style John Griffith (St. Frances). 3-star pro-style Devin Kargman from New Jersey is also a local name to watch.
Locksley is also going after 4-star dual-threats Gavin Wimsatt (KY) and Braden Davis (FL).
As for Friedgen, he's happily retired and runs an entirely different offensive scheme from Locksley. If Enos doesn't pan out, I've heard Pep Hamilton's name mentioned as well.

For those who were wondering, here are the top available quarterbacks in the transfer portal who are eligible to play next season:
- Woody Barrett (Kent State)
- Chris Katrenick (Duke)
- Austin Kendall (West Virginia)
- Tyler Lytle (Colorado)
- Jace Ruder (North Carolina)
None of these players are originally from the DMV area, and as far as I know none have any ties to Locksley or any member of the coaching staff though I could be wrong. Given that any quarterback who comes in would be the de-facto backup to Taulia Tagovailoa, I'm not sure how likely it is that the Terps are able to land anyone significant via the portal this season.
