Calhoun has not returned multiple calls to CBSSports today. Been told an announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

Might be the end of an era of UConn basketball that we know it.

Mentioned this in the realignment thread....not that one was coming anyway, but UConn can completely forget about an ACC invite for the foreseeable future.

EDIT: Oh, and while I respect his accomplishments, my reaction is pretty much "good riddance."

Hmmmm.

I was about to ask "Is it wrong to say good riddance" ... I guess it's not. 8-)

The big question I have is who is UConn going to look for to take charge of the program now ... and will they be able to keep up the success they've had on the court once Calhoun is gone.

I'm not going to cheer his retirement, but I'm also not disappointed to hear the news.

The CBT article on the subject suggested that:

1) Kevin Ollie will likely take over as an interim coach.

2) Calhoun may have waited this long to force that move instead of allowing the AD to choose an "unapproved" successor.

Most Division-I Wins, Active Coaches:

Mike Montgomery, Montana/Stanford/Cal: 635
Rick Pitino, Boston/Providence/Kentucky/Louisville: 629

ESPN: UConn seeks sponsor for center

http://espn.go.com/m...ter-jim-calhoun

Calhoun said he's talked to planners about including a locker room just for basketball alumni, who will be able to use the facility.

I like this idea, wonder if it's been done before?

ESPN: Kevin Ollie gets $7 million extension

I guess Calhoun isn't getting his old job back. I'm a bit surprised that UConn didn't wait until conference play atleast to see how he did there.
