The Pelicans will get the following picks from the Lakers, league sources tell ESPN:

No. 4 pick in 2019
Top-8 protected in 2021, becomes unprotected in ‘22
Unprotected swap in ‘23
Unprotected first in ‘24
Unprotected swap in ‘25

Pretty steep price there and definitely some risk of becoming a Nets level bad deal if there's injuries and/or Davis leaves after next year.

Still glad to have landed Davis, but it seems that they could have held back some of what they gave up, especially Hart for next year and the pick swaps.

Pelicans are certainly setup really nicely for the future.

Just saw that people are after certain guys in the draft, so NO could deal the 4th pick and drop in the first round and get more long term assets. That’s another option.

The Lakers will likely have about $27.7 million in cap space available after the Davis trade officially goes through. That's not enough to sign either Kyrie or Kemba to max deals. If Davis waives his $4 million trade bonus, then they would have some $32 million in cap space. There are a couple of scenarios in which they could wind up with the needed cap space to sign a max player, but that would require cooperation from New Orleans.

 

Either way, they might be better served using that money to acquire several quality rotation-type players.

It is true. They have five players currently under contract right now-- Davis, Lebron, Kyle Kuzma, Mo Wagner and Isaac Bonga. They can get to $27.7 million provided they shed any non-guaranteed money and renounce all of their own free agents.

 

If Davis doesn't waive his trade bonus, that number could shrink to about $23 million.

I wonder if the Lakers will look at Paul? He is making a lot of money. But he is still good and you probably don’t have to trade much to get him. Obviously the James connection is there.

I believe his contract would end the same time as James as well.

Will be fun if the Lakers / Pelicans face each other in the playoffs next year.

Those 2 and Kuzma is a great start.

So, I agree you don’t need to do that however, you do need to bring in a quality PG. that’s going to be costly.

JJ and/or Danny Green would also work. Terrence Ross is a likely cheaper version. Decent chance they bring back KCP too.Josh Hart would have been great to still have in this mix as well.

For more expensive potential options, three that make a lot of sense are Bojan Bogdanovic, Tobias Harris, and D'Angelo Russell.

They could also kick the tires on Boogie.
