Just watched this. Interesting look into catching styles and the impact they have on the game.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

He’s on my S list. Sorry. Blame MIMS

Here's the Athletic's guess at the cost of an extension.

A relatively down season for Rutschman means he’s into a different stratum of comps — with guys like Contreras and Smith and Murphy, rather than with Posey or Joe Mauer. Instead of $36 million in arbitration, he’s likelier to come in around $28 million now given his starting point. And instead of a $30 million salary per free-agent year, he should be right with Contreras at $23 million. Perhaps Rutschman’s pedigree as a No. 1 overall pick adds a little to that, so let’s go with buying out four free-agent years at $24 million apiece.

2024 extension projection: Eight years, $134 million
2025 Salary: $5.5 million
2025 extension projection: Seven years, $123 million

I'd do either one of those!

If that's what it took, the deal would already be done.

I'm pretty sure the O's will reach a deal with Adley.
I suspect it will be quite a bit more than those projections.

Don't share your Rutschman optimism but otherwise agree. These deals aren't close to what it's take for either, IMO.

I can't read the Athletic and not sure giving them any money is worth this.

I'm not sure what Tim Britton thinks he's doing.  This appears to be an out-of-context comp exercise.  I can't read anything he's written other than what's posted, but there's more context to this stuff than figuring out WAR comps.

Risk (Team) - reward (Player) is about finding where the circles overlap to get something done.

I'm in favor of a Rutschman extension and I've modified my past suggestions.  This would have been the year (past) to execute the next level of the contract.  Today, we're kind of just there.

I'll leave out "team friendly-ish" details, but I'm in a 10/225 camp.

Why 10 years? That hardly seems necessary. I think it would max out at 8 years if it were to happen.

Some combo of luxury tax manipulation and mostly dude's love for "flattening" deals by making them longer but for less per year.

Adley is making $5.5M this year and probably looking at $30M over the next 2 years. Absolute max of maybe $40M if he gets back to seasons that net him MVP votes. So 10/$225M is basically a 7/$190M extension. That's about $27M a year. Doesn't sound like much of a discount on the AAV actually. Maybe dude just saying what he thinks it'd take to actually get Adley to sign.

I’m plucking this off reddit (and I’ve not verified the stats)…

Adley since June 30 of last year (91 games)

.195 BA

.280 OBP

.307 SLG

.587 OPS

I know they said he’s not dealing with any injuries, but something is completely off with him. He’s in the 19th percentile in swing speed.

81% of MLB hitters are swinging the bat faster than he is.

His bat speed is terrible, but he's 99% of squared up. He still has an expected OPS of .900+, but yeah, the real numbers are bad.

Bobby Witt will end up in the HOF and we get some jerk off that likes to swing and end up on one knee

I've suggested this before and told I was crazy but going to say it again. He's been poor for months now.

Why not drop the switch hitting? What's to lose? Just start hitting RH.
