I think it's fair to say Clemson and Alabama are clearly #1 and #2, and none of the other rankings matter.

I mentioned this in the Terps transfer thread, but I'd add to that list the advent of the transfer portal this offseason. It sure seems like it has had an impact as far as how many players are exploring their options (along with their current coaches no longer being allowed to restrict what school they can transfer to).

Also, it seems like there are a lot more players getting their degrees after just 3 years on campus. I'm sure that's intentional on their part just to open up opportunities for themselves for their last 1-2 seasons of eligibility. I would think their ability to earn their degree that quickly can be directly linked to the other trend we see a lot of right now; that being that more players choose to get an early jump on college by leaving high school and enrolling in the spring before their freshman year.

ESPN: Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney to retire in 2020

He'll leave a paradoxical legacy. He was both a visionary and stuck in the past at the same time. He was a key player in the era of maximizing revenues through conference expansion and TV networks. Yet he had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the CFP and actually paying student athletes the full cost of attending college. He'd preach about old traditions one minute, and toss them aside like garbage the next.

It will be very interesting to see who the Big Ten replaces him with. Depending on who they choose, expansion of the CFP could be coming soon....or not (though no matter what I still think it's inevitable).
