Can never have too many shortstops.
But seriously, if you look at the draft tracker, there have been a shit ton of shortstops drafted this year already.
Through four rounds:
C - 6
1B - 6
2B - 6
3B - 11
SS - 27
OF - 27
P - 54

Song went at 137 to the Red Sox to close the fourth round, for those who were thinking of him as a possibility.
For some reason they had an Astros graphic briefly.

That's always the case, they put the best players on the team at short.
Mark Reynolds was a shortstop at UVA, for example, IIRC.

Orioles 5th rounder Darrell Hernaiz is good-bodied SS, athletic, raw bat speed. Was rumored as early as round 3.

Adam Jones was drafted as a SS, too. Mychal Givens was a SS.
I read one analysis that said Henderson could be a candidate to move to 3rd, long-term.

The Orioles are one of four teams yet to draft a pitcher. The others? Tigers Astros Giants In total, three rebuilding clubs and the best rebuilders ever, who rebuilt largely by developing position players and acquiring pitching later.

Orioles obviously prioritizing up the middle players. Getting guys with speed and good defense.
Last 3 guys are likely guys that you can get at slot or under. Not sure if that means they will be going for someone bigger soon or if Henderson will take that much to sign.
Yeah that is the question isn't it? Do they already need that amount of overslot for the top guys they took or are they eyeing someone later? I mean a guy like Leiter would cost a ton this year cause he'll be an eligible sophomore and is going to Vandy. He could easily be a top 5 guy in 2 years. That's GOTTA be expensive.

Should also be mentioned that our lower level pitching looks pretty deep right now. Lowther and Harvey at AA, the entire DEL rotation. Hall, even Sedlock has looked better. They've got some pitching already. Strengthening up the middle, and position player depth could really change the face of the minors system pretty quickly.

Oh, indeed. Posted because it speaks to that and the tie-in to Houston.

We took TCU outfielder Johnny Rizer with our 7th round pick.
Griffin McLarty in the 8th round. Opposite end of the cool name spectrum.

I’m guessing he has a good arm.

Final pick of the day is catcher Jordan Cannon from Sam Houston State.
I’m guessing he has a good arm.
Got a Gunnar and a Cannon.
