ESPN: Allen Pinkett: Irish bans give 'edge'

I get where he's going with this and speaks to the larger issues of tougher admission standards at ND compared to other schools. I think it's completely absurd though. Stanford's success proves that academics and athletics success isn't mutually exclusive.

Notre Dame's recruiting rankings from Rivals, since 2006:

2006: 8th
2007: 8th
2008: 2nd
2009: 21st
2010: 14th
2011: 10th
2012: 20th

I don't understand the argument they can not get talent to South Bend due to the admission standards.

Maybe these recruiting rankings aren't accurate? I mean these are subjective rankings at best to begin with. It's been many years since Notre Dame was a perennial powerhouse competing for national titles. But to your point maybe, they have the talent and it's bad coaching?

ND will always get solid recruits, the name alone regardless of the coach is gold.

Read that last night. You are right, it is absurd, and Stanford is a good example of what's possible. It's not as if the present generation invented "bad citizens" in college football, either. More programs and athletes should be holding themselves to higher standards, if anything. I know plenty of boosters and staff aren't that concerned, though.
