(Stoner, feel free to delete if you're not feeling the subject. I'm really not making this a "hey, what's the best strip club to go to?" discussion, as opposed to a "should this BE HERE?" thing.)

I heard some people in my circles talking about how 1) The Block has kinda devolved from good spot to have fun to...I dunno...a dangerous place to go that happens to have entertainment, and 2) The Block needs to go away to further development for the city. Just ditch the whole thing and let places pop up elsewhere.

I disagree with the latter (and places like Norma's will ALWAYS bring in good money), but kiiiiiinda agree with the former. I remember when Crazy John's used to a be a spot to eat and hang out, and then you could just walk into somewhere if you felt like it. That vibe has kinda gone away. It feels seedier, if that makes sense. Like...you could catch Ravens players there one day and it wouldn't be a thing. I think that's gone away. And I don't know what you do to improve that.

It should be valuable property.  I'd like to see it go away for that further development.

Seems similar to NY in the 90s when they got rid of that stuff in tourist / business districts.

I think the difference is “the block” isn’t in the tourist area. Where as Times Square was full of clubs and peep show booth places back in the day. If the block was in power plant, sure. I get that it’s behind it, but you know what I mean. Families can go see the ships and the aquarium and the waterfront, even power plant without seeing the block.

I’m ok if they get rid of the stuff. I don’t go there. But I don’t know that it makes the area less seedy. You go a few blocks up, it’s still full of shut down businesses, homeless, etc...

On the other hand, Bourbon St in New Orleans is a tourist haven and every other building has a strip club in it. Bourbon street is a hell of a lot less seedy than the block. So maybe it’s not the clubs. Maybe it’s the people.

The main reason to go to the block is to go to strip clubs. I don't think that's even close to true for Bourbon Street.

Went to see Metallica in 2017, got sent into the city with one of my friends on accident instead of the highway. Got lost, wound up in East Baltimore near Boston street. Went to East Baltimore street because I was going off memory due to both of our phones being dead. Accidentally tell buddy to take a right and onto the block. That was fun to explain to a guy whose been here like 3 times in his life what the block was. Get all the way down to the police station to turn around, buddy squints and goes "Is that the police station?" "Yeah, that's police HQ." Looks at me and just gives me a bewildered look. "No wonder this city has fallen to shit." We get back to M&T Bank stadium and head to the highway, with him still bewildered that the block had been set up right in front of the police station, and tell him that it had been that way for a long time.
