I haven't really enjoyed the new trilogy. I think the foundation of the story is forced, and doesn't follow the continuity of Return of the Jedi.

When Jedi ends, Vader has been redeemed, the emperor is dead, the Empire is in ruins, and the new Republic is being born. Thirty years later, the Empire has reformed, in secret. The New Republic is in ruins and the new Empire (3rd Order) once again rules the Galaxy (by the opening of Last Jedi). And they do this, in spite of the fact that their new "Death star" was destroyed? Come on...

It would have been a far more interesting arc, to watch the rise of the 3rd Order.

I'll go see 9, but only as a matter of procedure or habit, since it's closing the book on the Skywalkers. But I'm not very interested at all.

And as a personal complaint, since being a force ghost is so easy. Where's Qui-Gon Jin and Mace Windu?

Pretty much agree with this. TFA was just a fun experience, seeing a new SW film again. TLJ was uneven. Felt like a diversion and not in a good way. I think Episode 9 will be better with JJ Abrams back in charge but this hasn't been the trilogy I was hoping for when they announced that they'd be making new SW movies.

Completely agree.

I loved the nostalgia of TFA but this trilogy just seems out of place

I absolutely love the new trilogy and as long as Episode IX is good at all it’ll be my favorite of the trilogies.

I have to admit, this was a shocking thing to read. I know lots of people who like the new movies. But I haven't heard anyone say the new trilogy is surpassing 4-5-6 in their heart. You must be stoked for the final saga ;)

6 kind of sucked, though, which brings down the original trilogy.  But I think 5 and 4 were the two best movies out of the 8 so far, so 9 would have to be really, really good to elevate this trilogy above the original one.

Whenever I see the SW movies ranked, Empire is always voted the best.

I am! Haha

I think 8 is up there with 5, 7 is slightly better than 4, so if 9 is better than 6 it might do it.

Don’t get me wrong I love the original trilogy. Prequels are bad though no matter how you slice it. I prefer the Hobbit trilogy and I didn’t like that either. I know that’s not a hot take.

I think Return of the Jedi is my least favorite of all of them...if it’s not my least favorite, it is part of a group of 2-4 of them that are fine but nothing great

People overrate Rogue One. It was a solid movie and a nice change for the franchise but it was a 7- 7.5.

I agree.

I want to watch it again but I didn't think it was some great movie.

I actually think (and this is coming from someone who likes the movies and will watch them if they are on) that the whole series is overrated.

There are a lot of inconsistencies throughout that drive me nuts.

It's definitely an overrated franchise. We agree about that.

I recently watched Rogue One for the second time and I enjoyed it more than I did the first time. BNick is right, it's a great change of pace film for the franchise. I disagree with it being overrated though.

As for my out of 10 rankings for each film, they'd go:

Empire Strikes Back 9/10
Rogue One 8/10
A New Hope 8/10
The Force Awakens 7/10
Return of the Jedi 7/10
Revenge of the Sith 6/10
The Last Jedi 6/10
The Phantom Menace 5/10
Attack of the Clones 4/10

Attack of the Clones 4/10

Nailed that list.

At the end of the day, 7-9 is limited by its predecessors. You either retell the same story, which is now redundant. Or, you try to tell a new story, which will inevitably be incongruent with its predecessors. On top of all that, the powers that be are motivated by maximum broad appeal, as the primary goal is to make as much money as possible, not breaking new ground.

I had low expectations for 7, and enjoyed the experience. I had high expectations for 8 cause of Rian Johnson, and was disappointed. I'll go back to not expecting much from 9, and I'm sure it will be fun.

In the alternative world of having my druthers, the Star Wars universe is used as a backdrop for a more radical story, one that sheds simple good vs. evil notions for explorations into anarchy and socialism, total disarmament, or those with pure intentions and past good deeds attempting to hold together worlds without violent force.

Agreed. For me, the strength of the film came from how well it tied into 4. From incorporating unused footage from 4, to how they created a clever backstory to explain how such a massively powerful and destructive weapon, could have such an easily exploited vulnerability. I've watched it a few times, since it's on Netflix. And that has allowed me to notice things I didn't pick up in my first time seeing it. Otherwise, I would have seen it once, and moved on.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I think I've liked the other 3 newest ones (haven't seen Solo) a little bit more than you did, but agree pretty closely with your list.

If New Hope is an 8, I just don't see how Jedi can be a 7.  It's a worse movie to begin with, and then there's a mandatory deduction of at least one point  for the Ewoks.
