The Britton trade was a doozy.

He's exactly who he is. No one should be surprised from last night's performance.

Hyde etc said he looked really good in the Spring and Summer.  Perhaps some nerves with first ML action in over a year.

He's going to have to be able to throw something other than a fb for a strike.
Really concerning was how badly he was missing with fastballs last night.

Obviously a big arm.  What I wanted to see most going into last night was a bit more movement. In '18, he was hitting near 100, but flat.

Didn't really notice the movement last night, since he was having trouble just throwing strikes.

His fastball is flat and he has no command of it. He is a much worse version of Tommy Hunter IMO. We really did get fleeced in that Britton trade. The worse one of that whole sell off. Especially because it's NY.

Carroll looked like he was trying to strike the side out on 3 pitches.  Let's see the next group of outings before we kill him completely.

That's fair and it really doesn't matter short term or mid term, but he was terrible in 2018, missed all of 2019 and looked terrible in his first outing of 2020.  He gets to keep going out there because, why not, but he doesn't have a contract holding his position on the roster.

I just cringe when people write guys off, based on such a small sample size.

You referenced 2018.   He pitched 17 innings.  That is very small

But it's the scouting report. Big leaguers can hit a straight fastball. This isn't the same as people who wanted Wieters gone 2 weeks into the his tenure with the major league club.

Guys make adjustments all the time.  I really am not trying to say Carroll is going to be good.  I am just saying the uproar over such a small amount of innings is over the top.

I didn't see an uproar. I just think he stinks and we got completely fleeced in that Britton deal. That's what I'm really uproaring about if I'm being honest. I need to let that S go.

Good point.

He did look like he was trying to do too much. The guy throws 97 plus. He warrants a bit more time.

I still like the BP upside of Tate.

Well he wasn’t pitching great, had been hurt and they only had him for a few months.

The return was never going to be great...should have dealt him after 2016.

I do wonder if they went after lower level prospects, if they could have gotten higher upside/high risk guys. DD wanted guys closer to the majors it seemed.

DD tried to make it look like he was doing something to try to get another contract.  I am not sure about trading Britton in 2016, but what should have absolutely happened is DD should have been canned before the trades of Britton, Machado, Gausman and Schoop.

Dan was nothing but a figurehead for the 2018 trades.  Brady and Lou Angelos were running that show.

There was a report that teams didn't know who to talk to....to the point that they had to 'announce' that Dan was still the guy.

That's not a defense of Dan or anything else.  LINK  Just what was happening at the time.
