I agree, it's gone too far.

 

I get it was started for a good reason, born out of the post 9/11 patriotism, but now it's a business.

 

And it's hurting businesses -- the NFL especially.

 

I'd like things to be scaled back severely. Sometimes sports should just be about the sports.

Very much agree with that article.

I also think another word can be inserted in place of sports in this title, but that'd probably lead this too far down a path Stoner wouldn't appreciate.

I think it's awesome that the O's occasionally sing "This Land is Your Land" during the 7th inning stretch instead of "God Bless America."

Most of the time they sing it too slowly for my liking. I always think that that song should be a happy, fun song to listen to. Every time I've been at the Yard the singer drags it out way too much.

Here's the thing. Stop making it forced patriotism. We do it every Sunday. Yeah I'm happy I'm American. Not as proud now as I have been in the past. But I come to games to forget all that crap. Do all the military celebrating on the Sunday closest to Veterans Day and let the rest of the season be about football.

When I'm President, I'm replacing the Star Spangled Banner as our National Anthem with Ray Charles' version of America the Beautiful.  Yeah, yeah, Baltimore and Fort McHenry and all that, but it's a pretty meh song.  Give me Ray.

Yep, enough with forced patriotism. Enough with militarism too.

So much of it is superficial. Plus, being patriotic goes much deeper and in totally different directions than supporting our military.

It's a -lot- harder than that, because that's when (stupid) people make the slippery slope argument of, "Well, what about military appreciation? What about charities? What about other causes?" And then nothing gets solved.

 

I'm just like...bruh, just ditch the anthem and play.

And if someone doesn't want to stand for the flag -- that's on them. Yelling at them isn't going to make them patriotic.
