No question about it.   His problem is eventually they are going to need a 4th outfielder.

Nevin and Trey really shouldn't be out there.

Rosters eventually have to be 13/13, McKenna will be back. Or Diaz.

I keep forgetting baseball is going to limit the pitchers.  Your right, that will add the outfielder.

Recalled.  He becomes the 4th guy on the bench.

Not seeing it with Bannon but he does have the tendency to get on base at the MIL level.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

As soon as Diaz is DFAd the Manny trade is offically over. What a disaster.

I genuinely think DD might have been our worst GM since Syd Thrift.

We'd have zero recent playoff appearances without him, IMO.  He managed to find tons of free production that pushed the roster up and over the hump.

Agree he was too passive and couldn't get the Angeloses to try to improve the team from the fringe playoff contender it was during his tenure.  Also agree that his trades in 2018 were collectively terrible.

Given where he got us after being a loser for so long, I can't be very critical of his tenure overall.

I think he was handed the core talent and a HOF caliber manager. Hes prob not worse than the other Duquette/Beatie/Flanny but I do believe he was poor

Agree he was given the core and the manager, but the supplemental pieces to those teams were so collectively and inexplicably vital.

Hammel, Gonzalez, Chen, and Norris were him.  He also deserves some credit for resurrecting Tillman and converting Britton.  Drafted Gausman, Mountcastle, Hall, and Rodriguez (plus Sedlock and Stewart...yuck).  McLouth and Pearce are the gold standards for the cheap guys he brought in that made important contributions.

Gotta criticize the places he fell short, but gotta recognize the places where his influence may have been the difference between making the playoffs and not.

Definitely better than them and Thrift.   I could see arguments for / against him over MacPhail - but ultimately I think both were competent professionals.

They were all competent professionals aside from Thrift, who used to be really good but was way too old and not able to think clearly any longer.  Ownership is the common problem amongst all the GMs that have been here.  Not being able to convince ownership to stop doing stupid crap is a flaw of all of them up to this point.  Elias has made some good strides in that category but only on small budget issues while he was spending nothing on the MLB team.  It'll be interesting to see if its same old awful when it comes time to really commit or if they'll give Elias what he needs and get out of his way.

Some of them were more competent than others.
All hindered by Ownership.

None of them responsible for decisions they couldn't make. You can provide information, and try to nudge.. sometimes people won't budge.

Beattie could have been effective.
J. Duquette...ehh...
Flanagan faced a pretty large learning curve.
