No need to bring him to Bowie.  Let him come to ST next year, rested and ready.

Lost in the Rule 5 draft.

Not surprising. Very good arm before the surgery. Has a real chance to stay.

This annoys me.

Valdez was a nice story last year, would rather have Pop.
Lakins had a few moments and was in the Majors last year while Pop was injured... would rather have Pop.

They gambled he wouldn't be taken.

I feel the same way.  In addition, when they did not protect Pop, Eshelman and Wynn were still on the roster.

I think Cole Sulser may still be on the roster.

Pop may never amount to anything, but a lot of people like him and we never even took a look after he recovered from Tommy John.

Agreed, saw this coming and I don’t understand why they didn’t protect him over some others.

I guess, it amounts to Pop not pitching in almost 2 years and not being one of Elias's guys, but they took a guy in R2, who has not pitched in 2 years, so who knows.

I've questioned this, too. Maybe the thought process is that Wells can eventually be stretched out and return to the rotation, or at least be a multi-inning reliever. By comparison, Pop is probably always going to be a one-inning guy. If that's the case, I'm fine with this pick, but I'm still disappointed in the decision to not protect Pop.

He's already been traded to the Marlins.

Interesting, it probably kills any chance to get him back.

Could have said the same thing when we traded for Drew Jackson.

He's pitched 10 innings since 2018. We can maybe hope he's rusty in the spring and it takes him a while to get back to where he was, and maybe the Marlins want to surprisingly contend again and lose patience. Who knows...
