I suggested Ruiz was going to be DFA'd soon, but did not think it would be for Stevie Wilkerson.
He gives them versatility and is hitting well at AAA.
Welcome back!

So does this mean Ruiz isnt being offered arbitration next year.
Maybe for someone else.

Doubt Ruiz is gone, he'll clear waivers. This just gets him off the 40-man to make room for Stevie. Guess they wanna protect Valaika's arm?

One is 24 and they sent to Bowie, the other is 23 and they sent to Norfolk. (I'll listen to arguments of this being a stupid distinction of "baseball age" since they are only 3 months apart that just happens to be across the July 1 boundary)
Doesn't mean everything, but I think it does mean something about which one they plan on giving a shot to first. At least unless something happens with their performance that dramatically alters things. Vavra's insane first two weeks might change things enough, but my guess is the order is still the same for now.

Jones is younger but been in pro ball longer. Vavra spends 2020 in AA if there is a season. This is only his 3rd year of pro ball he's killed every level so far. I really dont read anything into the placement of each. They were never going to completely skip AA for Vavra. AA is a level that is virtually never skipped. Unless you're Garrett Crochet as a fully baked college arm ready to pitch out of the pen.One is 24 and they sent to Bowie, the other is 23 and they sent to Norfolk. Normally I would completely agree about AA being an important level that is rarely if ever skipped, but with the missed year I could see many teams treating the camps as AA for age-appropriate guys and pushing to AAA if they performed well and have the type of makeup where maybe some struggles wouldn't derail them. But I still think that the team views Jones as the next man up at 2B and then Vavra will get his shot after (or simultaneously depending on how well each guy does, if Jones does ok at MLB but Vavra tears up AA and AAA then they'll find a way to get time for both).

He went on the IL last week.

Vavra is the guy IMO. I think he is a legit prospect with a chance to be a good regular at the big league level. Jones is a fringe prospect at best. Still, I do want to see Jones get a look up here. Post was more about my developing crush on Vavra than a swipe at Jones. I will say that if Vavra continues to rake at AA there is no reason not to call him up. 2b is a black hole up here.
