Final Tournament Standings:
I get that there's going to be some noise in the rankings as this ranking is tournament-based results, but there's just no way the USMNT should be ranked 9 spots higher than Japan.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Just read a very interesting side note. I tried to go find if so I could put it exactly right but my memory will come close.
Over the last 4 Mens World Cups, 4 Euros, and 3 Womens World Cups the semi-finalist team that had the longer rest between the semi and the final won every one of these comps except once and that one exception both semis were on the same day.
The problem is that the break between the semis and final are so short that an extra day off is huge. If the semis are on a Tuesday and Wednesday and the final on Sunday (like this WC) the difference between 4 days rest and 3 days rest it a big deal.
A typical break goes like this.
Day 1 - rest and at most a light cardio workout. No contact.
Day 2 - Light training
Day 3 - Full training and tactical work for the next match
Day 4 - Light training and tactical work for the next match
Now look at that and figure out just how is a team to get ready if they only have a 3 day break?
I get that the TV revenue is a big deal but FIFA needs to have both semis on the same day moving forward. And frankly they need to expand the schedule timeline so that no games ever happen without at least a 4 day break between matches, minimum.

Infantino trying to allow for private investment stakes in the WC , it's going over about as well as you would expect. Seriously this guy can pound sand, please stop trying to ruin the best tournament out there. I won't even mention who was involved in pitching the idea to him.

I read where Jared Kushner’s brother is the head of the proposed investment group. That tells me all I need to know.

We can never have nice things. Greed kills everything.
And looking at who started this thread, whatever happened to DJ?

Doesn't FIFA already allow unofficial "private investment"?

This Infantino mess is wild, a new rumor floating around that Mexico is still supporting him because Infantino promised to try and get them moved to CONMEBOL. This guy is a snake who will say or do anything to hold onto power, he needs to go away...

Don't disagree, but I don't have any hope that whoever they'd put in charge next would be any better. FIFA and corruption go hand-in-hand, been that way for many decades.

Yeah remember how Infantino presented himself as this wholesome alternative after Sepp Blatter was ousted. ![]()
Corruption is just too institutionalized in that organization. Everyone is out for their own self interests, even many of the very same people who are complaining about the corruption.
