Agreed. I know who I don't want... TB, TOR, Pitt or NYI. Yes, I know we can't gace TB or TOR in the 1st round, but just saying. Those are the 4 teams I think could beat us. NYI just due to Trotz. Though they've certainly cooled a bit.

 

Yeah I'd like to see TOR and NYI in the first round. Yeah there's a story with Trotz too, BUT I'd like to see it be about Tavares first.

 

PIT is always PIT, the road will probably go through them, that's just how things work for us.

 

I guess I'd say CAR scares me the least. CBJ only because of last year, but a good goalie scares me silly. SO I'd love to avoid Price.

 

I think it's more even than it has been in a while, and no matter who it is we are just going to have to play. The good news is that we are a balanced offensive team, and one player getting shut down will still leave something like 6 other 20 goal scorers. The bad news is our defense has been up and down all year. Jonas coming up may give it a boost though.

 

Still gonna be on Holts to step up and dominate though.

Yeah we really needed him anyway, I've been saying all year we needed another stay at home defensemen. I was a little surprised they didn't think about Alzner when he was going to be cut and his salary would be nil, an Orpik like move. But more upside with Jensen. Smart move to lock him up right away.

 

Losing MBow hurt me a little bit...but I know they were getting frustrated that he wasn't claiming the job. That's who they've talked about a couple times before that they were expecting some guys to step up more. I wish him well in DET, but it just looked like it wasn't going to happen here. Maybe he needed top line minutes? Some guys are like that. But this looks like it should work out for us long term.

On one hand, it's a huge blow having to remake the D pairings this close to the playoffs. On the other hand, teams, particularly those familiar with us, will not have as much tape on what we're doing with those pairings. 

 

Either way, huge loss. Love the way Kempny plays. And such a BS way to go down.

Yeah, if someone was going to go down, he isn't the one I would have wanted. It's almost like a wash with Jensen, both of them are really steady and do their job.

 

Matt and Orlov have been the ones killing us this year. Maybe that gets fixed by having to redo the pairs now...I dunno, but I'm nervous at having one of our more defensive players get hurt. I mean he doesn't play a lot of PK or PP time, BUT we control the puck more when he's out there, and he's got over 130 blocks. Those are huge.

Michael Kempny is out for 4-6 months after surgery for his torn hamstring.  Hockey teams never announce injuries but the fact that there was no way he was going to be back in time for the playoffs there was no reason not to release this information.

At this point the Caps 1st round opponent could be the Pens, Columbus, or Carolina.

Caps/Canes in Round 1 on Thursday. At least if they drop game 1 we won't be like "here we go again." It'll be easier to watch trying to defend the title rather than chasing what was once elusive.
