The upside is an ace level talent on the mound who has at least pitched like a mid-rotation starter when healthy to date. 6th starter makes perfect sense. Also there is going to be a bunch more guys to dip into if needed in the minors next season as far as depth.
(I'm still all in on something like signing Framber Valdez and trading for Sandy Alcantara/Joe Ryan this offseason.)
Perhaps its just semantics. I get the upside and its there. But I just can't fathom building a roster with an expectation that GRod would provide a good number of starts in 2026. And to me that's what you are planning when you say so and so is your #6 starter.
I would have a rotation of 1-7 that does not include him. Maybe just saying he is #6 effectively means the same thing you just have guys 1-8. I just think its a huge risk to not make the moves this winter to fill out a full SP staff that doesn't include GRod.
