This is your first warning Chris, no penalty should ever be that harsh.

Come on, do it!  Just ban him for 10 minutes...   :-0

So is Nickle in self-imposed exile for a week or something?

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Yes, but needs to be consistent and fair.

Do you feel Chris didn't treat Branden fairly in that thread?

Branden was acting like I was attacking him...and I really wasn't.

I pointed out that he had an agenda against Joe...which he obviously does.  Just as I have an agenda against the Os management or Mackus has an agenda about keeping Manny, etc...we all have agendas.  That's how the world works.

All was said to Branden is that he is believing a story, backed by zero evidence, because he wants to believe it because its about someone he has an issue with.  Its the same thing for him as if it was LeBron, Gary Williams, Givens, etc...If Givens pitches 20 straight scoreless innings, you hear nothing from him.  If in the 21st inning, he blows a save, he comes on says he is Chris Ray 2.0, can't do it, etc...That's what he does.  Pointing that out is a fact and if he can't handle facts, maybe he should post differently.  Maybe he shouldn't make the biases and agendas look so obvious?

If an article is written that paints PA in a negative light, a lot of us will believe it even if its speculation..you know why?  Because we want to believe it.  That's human nature.

Pointing that out about Branden doesn't make him any different than anyone else on here...but for whatever reason, he didn't want to admit to it and turned it into something bigger than it was.

And btw, this has proven to be a BS story.  Branden was wrong about it.

Ricker was just voicing the valid opinion which exists that I've got to be consistent with which rules are enforced, and that I can't let you / Rob get away with something that I wouldn't let Branden get away with.

Which is understandable, but....   yeah, the reality is that I'm going to be more lenient with the guy where we were groomsmen in each other's weddings vs. someone I haven't even met.

Something that I don't think is understood enough though, is that I've been lenient with a whole lot of people on this board.

There have been four main reasons why I have been lenient overall:

1) The more one posts here, the more rope you get. If you've been a regular here for years, I see you differently vs. the guy that signs up tomorrow.  A lot of our most prolific posters have gotten away with things which they wouldn't have had they been new posters.

2) You guys are adults. I want adults to solve things on their own, and generally for the board to police itself.

3) Because our rules have been a bit gray at times, I haven't come in and cracked skulls.  I've tried to nudge people in certain directions.  I acknowledge my responsibility in the ambiguity which has existed.

4) We have a good volume of discussion... but not as much as OH, RSR, IMS....   it's been chicken or the egg for me... do I just ban posters no matter who among our most prolific posters, and see that corresponding drop in discussion? Or by banning those posters, would others (either those registered who don't post, or lurkers) become more 'vocal'?

Here is where things change a bit going forward....

A) There will be significant changes coming to this site in the coming months. I'm not ready to talk about those changes beyond stating that we will be enforcing / pushing the few rules we have. And I will say because of those changes, #4 above is not something I'll be weighing going forward.

B) I'll step-in and be the ultimate decider if needed.... but for the most part, I'm going to cede Moderating to Jeremy, Bob, Russ, and Mike. They are intelligent, balanced guys, and whatever they say will go.  I've turned the other cheek quite a few times, for the betterment of the site... which I was willing to do. I won't accept Jeremy, Bob, Russ, and Mike being disrespected. As clear as I can make it, that won't happen.

Lastly, I hope a final word about Nickle.

My sense is Branden thinks I dislike him.  That's not the case.  FTR, I don't know him or many of you beyond as a poster here. And I wouldn't think your posting here is a full representation of who you are as individuals.

Branden has been here since Dec. 20th 2011, and he has 36,705 posts.  (2,349 days... equaling 16 posts a day.)

For whatever this site is currently, he has played a very prominent part.  He is an intelligent guy, with the ability to give takes in lots of different sections here.

I appreciate that.

He as a poster (and all other posters here) are effectively a client (and hopefully ambassadors) of the site.

I want to provide an environment where you (the clients) enjoy coming, and being a part of.
That's what I strive to do.

If I fail in that regard, it does legitimately hurt personally.

I feel all I can do with anyone here is be as fair and clear as I can with anyone.

My hope is that as we enforce / push the few existing rules we have; that will eliminate any gray which has existed.
I also hope that by ceding the great majority of the Moderating to Jeremy, Bob, Russ, and Mike.... that will reduce the concerns those have about my biases.

Except for letting Rob get away with murder, I don't see any way in which you've shown iffy judgement... and the only issue I've ever had with the slack you show Rob is the hypocrisy part, where you want others to not get into social or political stuff but it's fine for him to post Trumpian hatefulness multiple times per week... other than that, I figure it's your site, so it's your rules.... (well, even with that, it's your site so your rules... but it's an example of banana republic rules, not real rules)...

The idea that folks are gonna claim that BNick has been treated badly is just asinine...

And here you are accusing him of posting Trumpian hatefulness (clearly a board violation) and I bet nothing happens to you.

I don’t even know trumpian hatefulness I’m saying. That’s just stupid but considering the source of the comment, it’s expected.

Calling the guy stupid vs just disagreeing with him is kind of the point made about my hypocrisy Rob.

And yes Shack...Pedro's point is not without merit. You would be one of the posters I'm thinking about in point 1 above.

That all said, I'm done with this thread for now, and I'm intending on backing out on Moderating unless called in to make some ruling going forward.

Let's all move forward, and just let the new Mods mod. Have questions for them? Let them know.

FTr, I didn’t call him stupid..I called his comment stupid.

Stupid is way too tame of a word for me to describe shack anyway. :D

Not saying I've been perfect about it, but there's no denying that I've made a solid effort to abide by your wish that political/social issues are not the topics of discussion... and, while there may be failures I'm not thinking about right now, when I have commented it's been in response to others who openly flaunt the fact they don't care what your wishes are...

Rob - what Stoner said. And I was trying to be pragmatic about this rather than cause any issues or more work. Part of this for me, is I feel bad because I've behaved much worse than Nickle did that night, and gotten away with it.

Regardless, I'm committed to respecting the rules with the changes moving forward. I dont want to make the new mod crew work.

I understood what you were saying.  I wasn't talking overall board experiences though.  I was talking about that one particular thread and his reaction to it.

Have had a pretty busy weekend...I'm glad there are folks out there who've been able to step up and help out. I would, but the time isn't really there. Over the past couple of years I've had a lot of things I've been trying to get more solid in my offline life (my marriage is fine...just other things that I've never been able to recover from thanks to the Great Recession and associated systemic economic problems, as well as things from my past [no, not a past substance abuser or criminal] that I've been trying to reframe), and I've had less time to spare as a result. For example, I haven't posted much at all in the "Life" part of the board lately, and when it comes to the "Sports"...well, there was a time when I used to be quite knowledgeable, but I don't keep up with as many things as I used to. (Mind you, I still look way beyond BA/HR/RBI and pitching W-L when it comes to baseball....) I used to mod and admin for a totally unrelated forum many years ago, but it's a lot different when you're still in school and single. In any case, it was nice that I was considered for helping out on the boards here, and I think we have some good folks pitching in. If help is needed down the line and I have a little more time, maybe, but for now I'm content to float through and do what I do at my leisure....

By the way, cat lovers, cat is fine...had to reschedule anyway. Just routine annual physical, rabies shot, etc....
