I guess Evans is the guy anyway. What a waste of time.
And money.

If this has been a done deal between Maryland president Wallace D. Loh and Evans since the weeks leading up to Anderson going on that ill-fated six-month “professional development sabbatical” back in mid-October, the hiring of an outside search firm after Anderson left in mid-April might have simply just been a six-figure, two-month smokescreen for what many figured would happen all along.

"Evans was arrested for DUI on June 30, 2010. Evans tried to bribe his way out of the arrest and had a pair of red panties between his legs when he was pulled over. The passenger in the car, 28-year-old Courtney Fuhrmann of Atlanta, was arrested for disorderly conduct. Evans was asked for his resignation and agreed to resign."

I don't know whether this is a good choice or bad. It does feel like they took months for a search when they already knew where it was going to end up.
Do a good job Mr. Evans. Maryland sports deserves better leadership than what it has been given, in the last 15 years.

AD isn't the kind of position that anyone really gets jazzed over the hire. Usually it's more about being happy the previous one you didn't like is gone (seems Terps fans have been saying that for a while now). Seriously, how many people can name 5 non-MD Power 5 conference ADs off the top of their head? Usually when their names come up it's for all the wrong reasons.
You really only want 3 things from your AD:
1) Make good coaching decisions, especially in the two revenue sports
2) Raise money (which is MUCH easier if you accomplish #1)
3) Run a clean department/programs
Evans has a prior track record for doing #2 and 3 very well at a big time school (his baggage is all personal, nothing athletics-related). Georgia did win 13 national titles and 19 SEC titles during his tenure, though only one of those SEC titles came in a revenue sport. Some say that maybe he stuck with Richt too long after he was never able to take the next step following his early success. But I've also heard that Evans nixed a number of facilities requests Richt made, which might explain why he had so much money on hand, but also may have held his coaches back when they could have done more.
Still, all-in-all I'd say he was successful at Georgia right until his own undoing. But I think he will have a whole different, and probably more difficult, set of challenges at MD....both with raising money and identifying/hiring the best coaches you can get at MD. The Cole Fieldhouse project still isn't fully funded, plus there are other facilities that could use upgrades (the stadium video board and sound system are pathetic, probably the worst in the B1G). The two revenue programs have been mediocre, at best, for years now and attendance/ticket sales are trending in the wrong direction. And now, the specter of the death of a student-athlete in the wake of a supervised workout, and the outside investigation into it, hangs over the department. Hope he's up to the task.

Good post....Evans seems like the batter, who replaces a hitter with two strikes in an at bat.
The deck is stacked against him. I am good with a guy who screws up, getting a second chance. I have to question whether Maryland should be the one extending the second chance.

More proof the university if pleased with mediocrity. Sad.
Probably doesn't (shouldn't) change your opinion, but this news is two years old.

If it was done in very late 2022, football was in the middle of getting its most wins since 2010, and basketball kinda seemed like it was back.

She also drove the athletic department into $83,000,000 of debt, which led to the disbandment of 7 sports which have never returned before she bolted to NC State.Maryland had more athletic success under Debbie Yow.
