Seems like a DJ Stewart type of failing, former respected prospect (obviously younger than DJ).  But certainly more than fair return for Cobb even with about half the money included.  It was gonna take $5-7M just to get anyone to take his contract, so another million or two to buy this guy seems fine to me.  Especially since there isn't anything else they might do with the money.

Jones was the Angels number one prospect in 2017.

His dad and 2 brothers briefly played pro football. His dad is from DC and played HS ball at DeMatha. Kinda cool.

I mean Elias likely could've gotten the Angels to eat more salary and only got back a bag of balls. Its encouraging that we decided to eat over half the contract. Maybe things arent as dire as they seemed a week or so ago financially.

We'll see exactly how much they ate, but I generally agree.  Can disagree on the amount, but I'd say close to half of the $15M he was owed ($4.5M of which is deferred) would need to be paid by the Orioles to get anyone to take him even with nothing coming back.  But if they ate more than that, I think that means that they like Jones enough to effectively purchase him and his remaining control for that amount.

Former Top 100 prospect. I really dont think you could've asked for more for Cobb. I mean if he is pitching well in July I think essentially the same type of trade is made. Orioles have paid half or more of the salary and you get a player of the same caliber. Now you jump out in front of a potential injury or poor performance that would've locked you into paying Cobb's full salary and getting no return.

Yeah I've got no complaints, even if this is just a slightly younger Richie Martin coming back.  Well I've got lots of complaints about needing to dump a passable MLB starter for salary relief.  But that's unrelated to the exact value of this trade.  Seems like a decent enough return for what we dealt away.  Hopefully he can rediscover what made him a high draft pick and valuable prospect.  Performance the last couple years he's played has been pretty blegh, but he has at least still been young for those levels.  A big year at AAA this year and maybe he's back on schedule.

My guess is the Orioles keep the 4.5 M and maybe add another 2.

I think it is a good deal for the Angels.  I think Cobb rebounds some getting away from Camden Yards and playing for a much better team.

7 M seems like a fair price.

I am guessing the Angels feel like they are giving away a prospect, who has disappointed them, but maybe he gets a chance to produce at AAA or even for the Orioles.  Maybe it kick starts his career.

Agree with the sentiment of the board. It's nice to get a somewhat promising player that can get an opportunity this season to sink or swim.
