I don't know if anyone watched the Hopkins-Georgetown game on Sunday, but there was something going on I had never seen before.  The faceoff's were taking forever.  Several in the 3rd and 4th quarter were lasting close to a minute before being resolved.  Neither specialist could clamp down, but then neither was able to gain an inch and it resulted in a stalemate that took a while to shake out.   I've never seen a faceoff take so long like that before.

Didn't other guys show up and barge in?  Or have they changed the rules?

I mean if the ball pops loose those guys can go for it, and the wing middies we're right there waiting for it but while the ball was in between the two FO guys it's up to one of them to pop it loose.  If anyone else comes in to initiate contact that would have been a foul.

I wasn't able to watch the Hopkins-G'town game, but the first time I saw a faceoff take that long was the Denver-Notre Dame game earlier this season. There was a total stalemate for a solid 45 seconds, just like you described. It felt like forever watching it live, since they're usually so much quicker.

I haven't seen one like that since, and it seems odd that it happened multiple times in a single game. Maybe it's something we're going to start seeing more of?

Interesting theory,  could be a way to eat time if you are protecting a lead.  I'm not sure how practical it would be.  I think it's just more of  having two guys with similar ability/styles matching up.

Just watched the Denver-Albany State game.... no FO's that long, but several were set up to be... with both guys showing techniques that they learned either as wrestlers or from wrestlers... maybe that's old news by now, I don't follow LAX anymore enough to know.... but it was obvious to me, and I'd never noticed it before...

No Bill Tierny in the Final 4 is always a good thing.

Yale could've won by a much larger margin, if Stover hadn't played such a great game that game could have been a blowout.

In D3 news the Sea Gulls eked out an 8-7 win over Gettysburg.  Salisbury will now be playing in it's 18th title game where they go for their 13th title and 3rd in a row!  On the flip side they will be playing Wesleyan who is making their first trip ever to the title game.  Wesleyan defeated top ranked RIT  in a wild game winning 19-18!  37 goals, that must've been something to watch!!

Saw an interesting tweet today from Inside Lacrosse:

States represented in 1993 Final Four (Princeton, UNC, JHU, Cuse): 14, with 68.6 percent of the players from NY or MD.

States represented in this year's Final Four (Albany, Duke, UMd and Yale): 25, with 45.7 percent from NY and MD. @Inside_Lacrosse

Bulldogs dominating the Great Danes. 9-2 in the second. Terrible effort from Albany in this one.

8-5 at half, but all of MD's goals came in the 2nd quarter. Carry that momentum.

Paul Rabil and co have started a new professional outdoor lacrosse league, in which they have attracted investors and many of the world's best lacrosse players. The league is comprised of 6 teams and starts play on Saturday in Boston at Gillette Stadium. The games can be seen on NBC Sports and NBC Sports Gold (with paid subscription). Games will be played every weekend until the middle of September in a different city every weekend.

An article I wrote a few months ago about the Premier Lacrosse League and the potential it has to break barriers for the lacrosse world.
