It seemed odd to me that the goalie shifted to his left just before the shot. It didn't seem like a shot to his left was all that plausible based on all the bodies in the way. So from amateur view, that probably should have been saved.

I agree but I think, as a keeper, he was screened and was trying to get in better position to see. Plus I think his hamstring has him hamstrung. He doesn't seem to have much strength in his push offs.

Need one more goal to match the most goals by both teams in a final.

Great keeper, terrible with the ball.  He's like a hockey goalie that can't do anything with the stick.

Yes but that is the problem. In today's game you can't be a great keeper if you can't play with your feet.

So we can go back to not caring about soccer for another four years?

Awesome!

Considering the holiday we just celebrated, we should remain pretty grateful to France, so while I was rooting for Croatia, I can't hate. Congrats to France.

For some of us.

I'm amazed myself how much my interest in soccer has grown over the years.

France could repeat. They are pretty damn young. Mbappe 19, Pogba 25, Dembele, Lemar, Pevard and Hernabdez all in their low 20's.

I totally agree with the authors assessment of this WC. Particularly his #1. This was the bottom line issue why the US didn't qualify. We went into the last game needing but a point and Arena chose to go with the same exact 11 who had played full 90 minutes three days before. They were too old for that and it showed in spades against a younger but much less talented T&T.

Its one of the reasons I dislike the whole babying minor league baseball players. I think baseball is way behind the times when it comes to progressing their younger talent. There are teenagers playing soccer at the highest level yet its routine to see baseball players still in the minors well into their 20s. The "they need time to develop" is an outdated discourse.
