Adam Zagoria tweeted that the Big Ten is exploring a 22-game conference schedule. It could potentially end the Gavitt Games, as well as any replacement for the ACC/B1G Challenge.

Might not be good for the mid majors of the world who rely on those games as a big part of their budgets

Wonder if other mega conferences will follow suit and lower the amount of cupcakes they schedule.

Instead of cupcakes it will likely be games like the current MD-UCLA series that falls by the wayside….though that one will soon be a conference game anyway. Maybe they won’t be looking to schedule Georgetown now. So scrap playing the school a few miles away to play schools thousands of miles away. Welcome to the future of college sports.

Maryland will reportedly face off against Villanova in the 2024 Empire Classic.
According to Kevin Willard, Maryland will participate in the 2024 Empire Classic next season. They’re also close to getting a game against Georgetown on the schedule for next year.

The 2024 Empire Classic announced today that Maryland will take on Villanova on Nov. 24, 2024 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The tournament will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
In addition to the match-up between the Terps and Wildcats, each school will also host a game on campus during the event. The full schedule as well as television information will be announced at a later date.

Well if they go the route of dropping the student-athlete facade, run a 50 or 60 game regular season. May Madness will be fun!
