Why isn't the idea of "he wasn't hit hard" not apply to QBs?  I get protecting them but if they are barely touched, why throw the flag?

 

That basically tells you that the result is more important than the hit.  Its probably the same thought process with defenseless receiver.

Nevermind...Harbaugh said Kaufusi was healthy...just wasn't playing well, so he got pulled.

Then it is dumb.   we were out manned on both sides of LOS.    The Bears looked bigger than us on both sides of the ball and we were down at games end  to Pierce, Wormley, Henry and Rickard.  Kafusi has played about 4 quarters in two years.  At least use him to spell a group who was exhausted by games end.

Listening to the Harbaugh press conference...he said the reason he was given about the non flag on the fair catch is because they didn't hit him hard.  

 

That's fucking amazing.

 

NFL doesn't seem to publicize their rulebook as well as MLB does.  But from what I can find, there doesn't seem to be any criteria about how hard a hit must be to call it fair catch interference:

Fair Catch

1. The member of the receiving team must raise one arm a full length above his head and wave it from side to side while kick is in flight. (Failure to give proper sign: receivers’ ball five yards behind spot of signal.) Note: It is legal for the receiver to shield his eyes from the sun by raising one hand no higher than the helmet.
2. No opponent may interfere with the fair catcher, the ball, or his path to the ball. Penalty: 15 yards from spot of foul and fair catch is awarded.
3. A player who signals for a fair catch is not required to catch the ball. However, if a player signals for a fair catch, he may not block or initiate contact with any player on the kicking team until the ball touches a player. Penalty: snap 15 yards.
4. If ball hits ground or is touched by member of kicking team in flight, fair catch signal is off and all rules for a kicked ball apply.
5. Any undue advance by a fair catch receiver is delay of game. No specific distance is specified for undue advance as ball is dead at spot of catch. If player comes to a reasonable stop, no penalty. For penalty, five yards.
6. If time expires while ball is in play and a fair catch is awarded, receiving team may choose to extend the period with one fair catch kick down. However, placekicker may not use tee

 

I guess they rules that what happened wasn't really interference with the catch.  The defender hit Camp after he caught it and the ball was dead.  So it was just a matter of if it was a late hit / unnecessary roughness or not.  In that case, I guess it's reasonable to say it wasn't hard contact so no flag.

I have definitely seen that play called before...a fair catch and the hit was nothing at all.

Hockili and his crew were awful yesterday,  and they made some big mistakes, but that was not the reason or the only reason we lost.

 

1.  Attrition on both O and D line really showed yesterday.  Our d line fought hard but wore down and it hurt us a lot.

2.  Oline, particularly our guards got abused.  I really think Joe and the running backs played fairly well.  They could have sued for non support.

3.  The receivers.   God Awful in so many ways.  

-  Perriman- they really needed him to step up.  He got knocked out, not his fault-but his last play was one of the daggers.  That ball was perfectly  thrown.  Spot on beautiful.  He got clobbered.  I have not watched the replay of the game....Was it as cheap as  a shot as it looked and did he lose it before contact.   I was up yelling because I thought it was a strike, then the ball flies out and is going the other way.

- Matthews- Joe steps out of pressure and rolls out.  Matthews is wide open and falls down..An easy TD goes incomplete.

- Moore-started fast, and I think he is going to help...The pick 6 was right in front of me.  He has to catch that ball....It hit him in the damn shoulder.

_Campy-  did a few good things but the drop was a killer.  Joe picked up the blitz, and hit Campy in Stride.  Drop.  Not sure it showed on TD but he had a lot of green grass in front.

- Maxx- fumble when he looked to have a key first down.

- Wallace- he was getting bracketed but he stops running to easy.

The group does not work hard enough - keep moving, get your asses to a spot where you can be a target and help your QB.  Too many times Joe got pushed out of the pocket and escaped right.  Too many times no one came with him.  

 

Joe has been struggling, but he deserved a hell of a lot better yesterday.  Same goes for Buck and Collins-  Those too played very hard.

We have beat the hell out of the bad in Sunday's game, and there was plenty of it.

 

One guy stood out in a very positive way on Sunday.  Matt Judon was terrific.   He is really developing into a fine OLB.

 

He looks like he has lost 20 pounds from last year and he is faster, physical and talented.

 

I think he is going to be a special player.
