This is one of the dumbest things I've seen this country have an argument about.  I'm so tired of hearing about it.

Then try to redirect the conservation to the actual reasons for the initial protests.

Yet it paints an even clearer picture of the issue, IMO, when people choose to be more offended about what they deem an "unpatriotic act", than by the inequality minorities still face here in the "greatest country on earth." Also amazing I get accused by the same people who frequently say this is the best country in the history of the world, of hoping for an unrealistic "utopia."

I saw this quote today on Twitter:

Racism is so American that when we protest racism the average American assumes we're protesting America.

NBA has had this rule for a long time I think. Remember Abdul Rauf sitting and getting suspended like 20 years ago? Eventually they allowed him to stretch or warm up during the anthem instead of stand at attention. Probably have updated the rule since then but it's been around a while.

He is the reason they have the rule.

True.

But you hear this argument all the time that taking a knee is their right if they choose to do so. It's a right the troops have fought for you to exercise if you choose to. The NBA banning taking a knee goes against this popular view.

The NFL doesn't have a rule against it of course.

That argument usually comes in response to those who view the act as an outrage against the troops. In terms of a private organization making rules--or better, coming to terms with their personnel--about acts like this, that's a different issue.

Of course, the reason it got so big last weekend is when the head of our government suggested open retribution against the acts, which turned it into a literal First Amendment issue.

For those advocating an open dialogue, isn't that exactly what's happening right now, and isn't the only reason it is happening is because of CK's actions?

Here's an article from Malcolm Jenkins about why he and others in the NFL are protesting, what they are doing about the issues, and what they want to see change going forward.
