This is a thread to talk about writing of any kind -- be it the writing that goes on for this site, elsewhere, down to personal writing.

A little bit about my writing myself...

I started writing shitty horror movie scripts when I was 12 and it's gone from there. I went to Carver A&T for writing where I learned A LOT OF POETRY but also fiction, non-fiction/journalism and even some screenwriting. I went to University of Baltimore and majored in professional writing. During college I interned at the City Paper and worked there after college for a year. In 2004 I started working for a direct mail fundraising agency where I am a copywriter. It's technical for the most part but it does allow you to be creative which is fun.

I've written for The Gorilla, a magazine in Frederick. Some of my articles can be found here (the magazine archive:

But my real writing love is fiction. I've written dozens of short stories and longer, more novel-like ones. None of them have ever been published, I mainly do it for myself, however I have begun to think about self-publishing a trilogy of stories that I've written in the last 2 years. my writing style is similar to George Pelacanos/Richard Price. Major influence is The Wire -- somewhat stripped down, street-smart prose.

If anyone would like to read it, hit me up.

Did you ever finish your screenplays? Do anything with them?

I tried writing one once a long time ago and made it about 40 pages. Writing Act 2 is hard as hell. Ended up talking myself into it being a dumb idea for a movie and life went on.

Every time I watch something like Clerks I always think to myself that I could write a movie.

I've written two screenplays that are finished. I'm not someone who has an elevated opinion of my writing. I tend to start writing something, think it's dumb, and then delete it or never finish it but I do have to say that the screenplays are good and better than most of the low budget of the crap you see at Redbox.

Haven't done anything with them.

Sometimes I feel like taking a big risk, charging up $50K on a credit card and trying to make a movie but life's routine is too comfortable to upset sometimes.
