Well the ICC friendly tournament has come to an end and, not suprisingly, Barcelona was the big winner. Barca beat Real Madrid last night 3-2 to take the crown.

While its really nothing more than a glorified set of friendlies, the best part is that it gave American soccer fans a chance to see some of the worlds best teams and players live instead of just on tv.  And the attendance was pretty amazing. Average attendance was 57,000 and the Man City - Real Madrid game drew over 90,000.

This attendance really shows that the US is becoming a soccer crazy country. And remember that the Gold Cup was going on at the same time. I really think soccer in this country is poised to go take another big jump forward in interest especially if the MNT qualifies for next summer's WC and makes some noise.

Great time to be a FOOTBALL fan in the good old USA!!!!

We tuned in to Madrid/Barcelona last night, pretty sure it's the 1st time ever that we made a soccer game a priority on the schedule.  My son is a Barcelona "fan" (and really I mean a Messi fan) so he was going crazy when Messi scored.  And yeah, was nice to see all of the big names playing in these games in the States when they usually don't do so.  Need to try to get the kids to a game when one of these big name teams come over.

I saw that, we were out of town though.  But in fairness I had no idea it was happening until I saw it on TV.  Need to keep a better eye on things.
