The article was pretty decent and fair. But to me, the best part was that it laid out that there really aren't these top of the class coaches just waiting for a call from the USSF.

NT coaching is way different than coaching a club. And in fact its way easier.

No I am not Gregg or any relation to him but I get tired of the incessant anti Gregg crowd when the reality is he's done a decent enough job and not sure that there was anybody better AND available AND willing to take the job for the pay USSF could offer. Yes I'd have liked to have a different coach rather than a second WC cycle with the same coach. But the reality is, all things considered, he was probably the best overall choice.

I'd have given Taylor Twellman a shot. Not biased as a Terp or anything.

You can't be serious? I hope you are just joking since he was a Terp.

Not really serious, but the point that we can't do much worse is hanging out there. If I were going to pull a former NT player, I would probably call John Harkes before him...but to your point of there not being many clear candidates out there, kinda means they need to start thinking outside the box.

I draw the line at Lalas though.

There are some much better candidates than anybody you have mentioned that were likely available.

My top choice was Jesse Marsch but Jim Curtin was also an option.

1-0 Jamacia at HT.

Jamacia scored in the 1st minute.

US has 83% of the possession.

Sent it to extra time on what was almost certainly a last gasp corner kick (90'+5), then two more for the win.

Jurgen will have some free time on his hands in a couple more months, and plenty of US connections at Liverpool to get in his ear before then. Go big or go home, baby!

(yes, I know it's never happening)

Remember Sergino Dest's  boneheaded melt down resulting in a red card  and subsequent suspension in November?   It was his replacement Joe Scally who didn't mark his man on the header and goal at the beginning of the game...

Remember Sergino Dest's  boneheaded melt down resulting in a red card  and subsequent suspension in November?   It was his replacement Joe Scally who didn't mark his man on the header and goal at the beginning of the game...

I thought Scally was pretty poor last night and he did himself no favors on that coverage. However, go back and look at the tape of that. He did have a player breaking in from must outside the 18 toward the PK spot also unmarked. He had a tough choice. His first step was to cover the guy in the middle until he recognized the cross was going to the back post. No way to recover in time.

But Turner was AWFUL on that play. His positioning on that ball was pure trash. Easy to skate across the goal line as you read the flight of the ball. He should have been in position to at least make an attempt at a save. But he was freaking falling back inside the goal. Horrible.

Overall the team played just like they have for a number of years now. Totally dominate the match but just can't score against a low block. Even when they get chances they can't convert. Thankfully a literal last second own goal got them to extra time when it was clear they would win.

US totally outclassed Jamaica except where it matters most. On the scoreboard. So much talent they should be able to find ways to finish their chances. Well on to the final Sunday against Mexico which will play our crowd wise like an away game.

Here's a perspective on the Jamaica match that I think is spot on. Just a random fan post on one of the soccer forums.

"Poor performance" is not what most fans are saying though, and even that would be a harsh criticism for Berhalter in this game. There was some rust for sure, but the players were set up to succeed and the personnel to start and changes that were made were good.

Those calling for Gregg to be fired are so overboard as to be completely ridiculous. Yeah, we were fortunate to win, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the coach was a disgrace. If you actually watch the game objectively, his part was very good.

Tyler Adams with a beauty from way outside the box right before the half. 1-0.

For those of you who watched, did you notice the "quality" of Mexico's shots?  Every single shot on frame was directly to Turner's feet. I would have expected a HS kid to make every one of those saves.  The D had its moments but by and large they gave Mexico nothing.

My overall thoughts:

1. First since I am always quick to jump on the refs I think they did an outstanding job. I was a bit worried the first few minutes when the Ref seemed to be calling it way too tight for this level. But I think he set the tone that he wanted them to play soccer and not hack a shack. Well done sir.

2. Not sure what is going on with Chris Richards. He played ok both matches but had far too many mental WTH moments. That shouldn't be happening with a guy who has been starting in the EPL.

3. That move that Pullisic made on the baseline that lead to the second goal was just insane. World class right there.

4. DId you hear what Jesse Marsch had to say about Adams' goal? He said he's trained Tyler on shots from distance literally hundreds of times (most shots a DM ever are going to take are just like those) and he has never seen him hit one like that. What a moment for our Captain.

5. Gio was fine but nothing special like the previous game. Until that shot. My goodness what a crushing blow to El Tri. But what a smart call from Berhalter having him as a deep playmaker pairing with Ream and Adams. Mexico just couldn't ever press us off the ball.

6. Jonny was a very solid replacement for Adams. We are in good shape at DM now. But Jonny goodness please shoot 5 degrees one direction or the other. That should have been 3-0.

7. Lastly, kudos to the Mexican players. Historically when they have struggled against us they have gotten chippy if not down right dangerous. Not last night. They kept their heads and just played soccer. Thanks for that. Now for the Mexican fans. Not so much. FIFA/CONCACAF must punish this behavior. Stopping the match and adding time actually benefits the offending team and that is nonsense.

Overall a really fine team performance.

Other than a 1-1 friendly match last year, Mexico haven't even scored a goal against the US since the CNL final in 2021, the first match of that non-winning streak.

Overall a really fine team performance.

2 and 7 were huge IMO.  I was a bit annoyed with all of the early whistles, but it definitely kept the game from getting out of hand.  I was also pleasantly surprised to see Mexico not resort to cheap fouls later in the game.
