This is just pathetic. There is no reason at all that all United States World Cup Qualifiers shouldn't be televised. They want to grow the game here in the States and they can't even show many of the games to a majority of Americans.

ProSoccerTalk posted about this the other day, and pointed out that the road games are under the control of the individual national federations. So they can sell the games to whomever they want and the US federation and networks can't do a thing about it.

Pretty surprised NBC Sports Network or CBS Sports Network wouldn't be all over this. They're dying for programming.

They bought US/Mexico, too.

Hey, if you want to get cable companies to pick you up, how better than to program something people want to see. Particularly very passionate people.

The USMNT gets ok coverage from the networks. But I get the impression ESPN, FOX, and probably NBC Sports soon, are more concerned about growing the Euro product instead of the MLS and USMNT.

If you are a network in China looking to broadcast basketball, would you focus more on your own national league or on the NBA?

MLS is a lesser league. Maybe one day it won't be, but it will take far more national interest in the sport to get to that point. How do you create that interest? By showing the best soccer in the world, be it English Premier, Serie A, La Liga, etc. Just as importantly, by developing American players who can play in those leagues and become international stars.

We are seeing that process right now, but it is ongoing and will take time.

Back when Fulham was "Fulhamerica" that team got a lot of coverage on Fox Soccer considering it was pegged for relegation almost the entire season. I would expect MLS to get better viewership in central America as more players from that area seep into the league.

This is a good article on Soccernet:

US down 2-1 to Jamaica in the 90th minute.

Jamaica has 9 MLS players on their roster, but still a poor performance from the Americans (though it should be noted the lineup was without a number of regulars).

United States flat out dominated in the first half and were a bit snake bit to still be tied at 0-0. Between a couple of sick saves from Jamaica's keeper and several that went off either the post or the crossbar I was beginning to wonder if they would ever get one in. Gomez goal on the free kick was nice, but one I thought their keeper should've had. I'll take it though, as it made up for all of the other shots that should've went in. The U.S. left off the gas a little bit after scoring but still kept things in control for the most part and picked up a much needed 3 points.
