ProSoccerTalk posted about this the other day, and pointed out that the road games are under the control of the individual national federations. So they can sell the games to whomever they want and the US federation and networks can't do a thing about it.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1139546/tv-rights-change-for-u.s.-world-cup-road-qualifiers?cc=5901
This is just pathetic. There is no reason at all that all United States World Cup Qualifiers shouldn't be televised. They want to grow the game here in the States and they can't even show many of the games to a majority of Americans.

They bought US/Mexico, too.
Hey, if you want to get cable companies to pick you up, how better than to program something people want to see. Particularly very passionate people.

If you are a network in China looking to broadcast basketball, would you focus more on your own national league or on the NBA?The USMNT gets ok coverage from the networks. But I get the impression ESPN, FOX, and probably NBC Sports soon, are more concerned about growing the Euro product instead of the MLS and USMNT.
MLS is a lesser league. Maybe one day it won't be, but it will take far more national interest in the sport to get to that point. How do you create that interest? By showing the best soccer in the world, be it English Premier, Serie A, La Liga, etc. Just as importantly, by developing American players who can play in those leagues and become international stars.
We are seeing that process right now, but it is ongoing and will take time.

Jamaica has 9 MLS players on their roster, but still a poor performance from the Americans (though it should be noted the lineup was without a number of regulars).
