Finally saw it! Great movie.
Loved the scenes in the House. Reminded me of Prime Minister's Questions on C-SPAN. And when Thaddeus Stevens went all Rush Limbaugh on that poor German congressman...tears.

Day-Lewis was fantastic, but I don't think there was a bad actor or acting job in the bunch. Sally Field and David Strathairn and Tommy Lee Jones played well-known historical figures perfectly. Even James Spader in an absolutely ridiculous role was great.Yeah, there was some gold in those House scenes for sure. Really well done, and great movie.

The best part of the House scenes was how starkly they showed the difference between that society and today. Even though they had newspapers available and widespread, there was no passive-aggressive talk or negotiating through the media. If you thought your fellow congressman was an idiot, you stood up before the House of Representatives and called the Honorable Representative from _______ an IDIOT. And back then you could fight a duel over that.
Congressman Stevens would get Harry Reid or John Boehner into a room and leave them a sobbing, curled-up, thumb-sucking mess.
