Anybody know how this taxi squad thing works?  Could Hays just go on the taxi squad for a few days if needed?

A Club is permitted to carry up to five additional Taxi Squad players on all road trips with the Major League team. If the Club elects to carry five additional players, at least one must be a player whose designated position prior to the season is catcher. Players on the Taxi Squad are permitted to workout with the Major League Club but are not permitted to be in uniform and in the dugout during games. Upon the conclusion of each road trip, players on the Taxi Squad will return to the Alternate Training Site.

No.  The taxi squad must be players not on the active roster.  Would have to option Hays to get him off the active roster, and then would have to wait a minimum of 10 days before he can be recalled (unless someone else gets hurt).

No, baseball is not that smart.  The taxi squad travels with the team, but the players can not be used unless they are added to the 26 man roster, accompanied by a corresponding roster move for another player.

Hays hamstring still sore. Getting checked out. #orioles making a decision on him in next 30 minutes, per Hyde.

The guy has talent but legit can't stay healthy enough to ever take advantage. It's not a huge injury, but always something with him.

Brandon Hyde said Austin Hays (hamstring) is progressing and doing very well. Jogging, hitting. But no timetable for return #orioles

So basically we'll see him again around August or September.

Balt Sun: Austin Hays’ pending return means Brandon Hyde will have fully stocked Orioles outfield for first time

When Hays is confident he is good.  Hopefully he stays healthy and we can get a good look at what he can do.

Hays so far has been just fair at the plate, but he has one of the best throwing arms in baseball.  I suspect the word will get out, to not run on Hays.

Brandon Hyde said Austin Hays' hamstring is "a little tight." Available off the bench. Not in lineup as a precaution #orioles

A "little tight hamstring" will turn into a trip to the 60 day IL.

The kid can not stay healthy.  Another disappointment in a season of them.

Sounds like he's really day-to-day but with Mountcastle's hand injury they couldn't go with a 1-man bench.

Hit a homerun in his first rehab game. Should be activated on Friday.

They actually have more guys playing well than outfield/1B/DH spots.  That is progress.

Mullins, Hays, Mountcastle, Santander, Mancini.... should be seeing the majority of the ABs between the OF, 1B, and DH. Just wish Hays could stay healthy.
