At this point, I am not sure there is anything to be lost for Mullins. He was so bad last year, there is only one way to go.

My guess is they felt like they needed another defensive outfielder.
They are carrying 5.
Hays should be good
Santander is adequate
Smith Jr. and Stewart are not good.
Mullins gets the call because he can catch the ball.

Has had a great play in RF, and crucial play last night in LF.

Back up.
Hays has a broken rib, so Mullins should get an extended opportunity in CF.

I agree. He was shaded well into left-center and got there quick enough he had to slow down to make the catch.

Mullins covers ground but he seems totally overmatched at the plate.

Cedric's been hot. Credit to him for taking advantage of this time since coming back up.

I like the bunt base hits, If you don't have a good defensive 3B, you can work that for a hit a lot.
Turned on one. Can go get the ball.
This is what everyone wanted to see last year.

Not trying to be disrespectful. He might be able to eek out a 4th OF role for a few years at the ML level. All his value is going to be tied to his speed and defense.
I don't think you are being disrespectful at all. This is probably going to be his role in the big leagues. There is still a place for a defense first guy who can run. There will be more of a challenge for him when the rosters go back to 25.

And speed and defense peaks young so yeah rooting for him to find his niche for a few years.

How often do teams really carry a guy who can play OF defense and run?
How often do teams pinch run anymore?
How often do teams make defensive subs anymore?
Sure they do these things but not with players who can't hit at least some. Mullins is starting to show he can hit some so he might have a role. But only if he continues to hit some IMO.
