S Matt Robinson will miss the opener, and possibly more.

http://www.washingto...79ba8_blog.html

Robinson “will be in a sling for a week, and then he’ll rehab for two weeks,” Edsall said following Thursday morning’s practice in College Park. “We’ll see where he’s at at that point in time, but it’s going to be a minimum of three weeks before he’ll get out and starting doing anything from a football-related standpoint.”

Edsall said the injury doesn’t appear to require surgery, although the second-year coach wouldn’t rule it out completely.

And here is where the true impact of 24 players leaving in 2 years comes into focus.

With Robinson out, freshman Sean Davis (Maret) has been working with the staters at strong safety. Other players on the depth chart behind Robinson are walk-on Clarence Claiborne and Zach Dancel, who cannot play in games this season as a transfer from New Mexico.

Zero depth.

UM Terps: Terps Hold Fan Appreciation Day
http://www.umterps.c.../081812aaa.html

"Two weeks from its season opener, the University of Maryland football team provided fans an up-close glimpse of the highly touted freshman class that arrived in College Park earlier this month.

It didn't disappoint. Stefon Diggs had three first-half touchdowns - a 68-yard punt return, a 98-yard kickoff return and an 11-yard reception - electrifying a crowd of several thousand in Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Terps, who were holding fan appreciation day, scrimmaged for two hours before holding an autograph session on the field.

Diggs and quarterback Perry Hills impressed, as did freshmen running backs Albert Reid and Wes Brown. Hills, running the first-team offense in a game-like situation for the first time, led the Terps on an 18-play, 76-yard touchdown drive to open the scrimmage. The freshman went 5 of 6 for 27 yards on the drive and also rushed for 36 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown run.

Hills, who led Maryland to scores on three of his five drives, showed the ability to make plays with his arm and his legs. On his third drive, he eluded the pass rush and hit Kevin Dorsey in the flat, and Dorsey turned it into a 41-yard play. Five plays later, he hit Diggs over the middle for an 11-yard touchdown.

"I thought Perry [Hills] had a good day," said head coach Randy Edsall. "I thought he did some good things. Of course there's going to be plenty of things that he could learn from, and get better, but I think that we didn't have any issues with delay of game, really didn't have any false starts. When you talk about the mechanics and the operation of the offense I thought he handled it really well."

I hope all 15 of them were able to make it. :D ;)

Seriously though, I've come around to the fact that Hills/Rowe will be the starters all season. As fun and exciting as CJ Brown could be to watch at times, with his limited passing skill-set I just don't think you can win many games with him in the ACC without drastically revamping the offense to something like Paul Johnson runs. And since the Terps weren't going anywhere this season anyway, let it be a chance for the freshmen to learn....and hopefully one of them establishes himself to the degree that they can make a legitimate run at a bowl game in 2013.

Good to hear Hills played well. Trying to be positive here, but maybe this could end up being a good thing. If he can have a solid freshman campaign, the team might be really set at QB for awhile. Brown was always going to be limited in what he could do, so it'll be interested to see what we have here.

Edsall will screw him up, too

If anyone's interested, I made a post with some pictures from yesterday's practice. There's not much in the way of "action shots" of the scrimmage, but there's good shots of the stadium and some of the players on the field.

Couldn't read the article, but I guess it could have been worse. Still, I feel really bad for that guy.....he probably could have been an early round draft pick if he came out after 2010. Now thanks to injuries and position changes he's probably going to need to have a remarkable performance in a shortened season just to get drafted.
