While you walk. But not afterwards.

Basal means those down-time periods. I'm no expert, but what I wrote is what I learned in college from a bio teacher with an exercise/physiology specialty. Its all just a matter of degree.

I skipped over basal.

Everything I've read and learned, through research and experience with myself and others, says this isn't true.

Well hold up. If you're a person who gets up, showers, walks to the car, drives to work and sits at a desk all day then comes home and sits on the couch, walking for 30 minutes at night will increase your BMR.

You need to push your body.

I stand by that the quickest way to lose weight is through strength training. Cardio is obviously important for your heart and lungs and you will burn calories while you do it, and depending on your starting point it can increase your BMR, but you're already putting in the work. You may as well be happy with what you see.

You can lose weigbt through diet, cardio and weight training. The most effective way is a combination of the three. 20-30 minutes of cardio, 30 minutes of weight training and eating healthy is the best and quickest way. It involves lifestyle changes where these things just become a part of your every day routine, like going to work or watching the game. It's not easy, but it is habit forming.

Not sure why you think that... AFAIK, it's not true... but maybe I missed something?

Post workout recovery. The energy your body expends repairing the damage to muscles.

I think just doing something consistently is the overwhelming bulk of the battle, rather than whether your specific exercise is the absolute best thing for you or if something different might be more efficient.

Optimization really only matters if you're training for something specific or at a very high level.  If you're just trying to in general be healthier, do whatever workout you can that you'll actually stick with and do.

Feel the same way about dieting.  Doesn't matter which diet program you are on, they're all the same even if they are not.  The best one is any one that you can stick to over an extended period.

FWIW, I think most of what I've read states that if you're going to choose just one that lifting weights (vs cardio) is a more efficient way to lose weight because you can get your heart rate up (which you'll do during cardio) and also build muscle (which will also help burn fat post-workout).

That said, I fully agree with Mackus in that find what works best for you and what you're most likely to stick with.  If it happens to be just lifting weights or just doing cardio or just hiking or biking or a combination anything than do that.

I'm pretty sure Duffman has said the same thing four times, and is still getting the same question. LOL.

I want to start meditating this year.

It's one of the best things ever but is challenging. Yet once you learn how to do it is quite easy, just a matter of focus and resiliency. But it is super powerful.
